TC Powercore Latency & Info

Hey guys, can you give me an idea how high the latency is for TC Powercore cards ?
For instance, if I was running a synth plugin on the Powercore and had my audio card latency set to 6ms, what latency would I experience for the synth plugin ?
Or similarly with effects ?
Does the powercore behave similarly to the UAD in this respect ?

basically: it's equal to your buffer size.
Details:
powercore reports latency so the host will compensate;
you can selectively choose 'no latency' mode for specific plugs at the cost of higher cpu;
check this somewhat old article on v1.5 (they're up to v2.2)
http://emusician.com/dsp/emusic_tc_works_powercore/
You can also set a buffer multiplier which increases latency (i.e., double, triple buffer) but gives you much lower cpu --good for mixing + you can still set 'no latency' for tracking.

That's brilliant! Certainly a lot more impressive that the UAD design in this respect. The No latency mode sounds wicked
That article was extremely helpful, thank you for the link!
Cheers for the help

btw, UAD *finally* has PDC so it would work seemless in SL as well.
i would choose based on which plugs you like better. the UAD is pretty good if you want a bunch of channel strips / want something for mixing. the Powercore has a lot more tweaky/weird plugs -- so while it does make a good channel strip, it's also practical for sound design and general 'fun'.
similarly, there's a baby powercore (like half a powercore) and there's also the TC Konnekt 24D which has powercore'esque channel strips built in.

I basically want the Virus synth + VSS3 reverb from the TC family. I think the synth will make a big difference to my music assuming it won't crash as a lot of people are saying it doesNonplus wrote:btw, UAD *finally* has PDC so it would work seemless in SL as well.

I'm thinking then a UAD would be great for mixing.
I already have a great set of native effects but not really any good native synths which is why I'm looking at the Poco first.
My biggest concern with the UAD is the latency, I really need to keep to 6ms latency to make everything playable since I'm mixing in the box.
Looking at the Powercore Unplugged at the moment and will then buy the Virus plugin for it. My understanding is that I can get 64 voice Virus polyphony assuming I own the multi-license

The Powercore Virus is playable without really feeling any lag, even with my soundcard set to 7ms latency. I believe you get more latency with effects since the audio has to go to the card and back again (though perhaps this is only true with the UAD).

Wicked Eric, I was actually looking at buying the Powercore from you guys on eBay.
Any idea why the Virus is the same price from your store as it is from TC direct ? 399$ ?
I thought perhaps I could get it a little cheaper on eBay
I must admit I'm torn between the unplugged and the full version since maybe I will find the other plugs useful. Are any others stand out plugins ? e.g. the MasterX-3 ? or the Voice strip ?

You'll get a 10% discount if you enter the coupon code 'forum' on our site. We can put a Powercore/Virus Bundle together to bring the price down a bit further, too, since we really ought to have the Virus for a lower price than it is on TC's site (thanks for pointing that out, btw). Send me a PM on Monday to let me know which card you decide on.
Regarding the stock plug-ins, the reverbs are obviously the staples but you won't use them if get VSS3. Dynamic EQ is excellent for de-essing, Master X3 is excellent on drum busses, and Character is totally unique and extremely useful on everything. I only just got Filtroid and can't comment too much on it yet. The other stuff isn't all that useful, IMO.

Thanks Eric, I'll see how I go and I might be in touch soon. I must admit that I'm a little undecided at this point

Yes, it's one per DSP for every Poco available, and each Virus instance uses 100% CPU on that DSP. This is clearly wasteful in the mkII with 50% more CPU available per DSP. I've got an Element and an Unplugged, so that's four on each card. The Poco Virus is much better when the parts are spread out over multiple instances rather than parts within a single instance, so the multi licence is a must have option IMHO.Zycat wrote:Anyone know how many PoCo viruses can you run on a single PowerCore unit? Please give the name of the unit also because the number of DSP chips are different.

Just to clarify, each "one per DSP" is 4 parts and 16 voices polyphony, meaning a single card can do 16 parts and 64 voices polyphony if you have the Virus Multi Upgrade.cleverr1 wrote:Yes, it's one per DSP for every Poco available, and each Virus instance uses 100% CPU on that DSP. Can I get some thoughts from you guys on whether it is worth buying the Powercore MKII + Virus or Unplugged + Virus ? How do the stock Powercore plugins compare to Voxengo / Kjaerhus Gold / Sonalksis ?
Also what's the difference between MKI and MKII ? Is it really worth going for MKII ?
Thanks a bunch for your advice, I really can't make up my mind

Character is very unique and good for any application. Master X3 is excellent on drum busses. Dynamic EQ is a fantastic de-esser. Megaverb and Classicverb are better than most native reverbs, although they aren't nearly as good as the optional System 6000 reverbs, VSS3, DVR2, and NonLin2. For me personally, the remaining stock plug-ins aren't useful.
The MKII's DSP's are 50% more powerful than the ones in the MKI. However, you can only load 4-parts/16-voices on either version so you won't see any benefit of the MKII with that plug-in. I'm still very happy with my old Powercore Element.
