Mackie Designs and Universal Audio, two leading manufacturers of professional audio products, today announced the release of version 2.3 Macintosh software for the UAD-1 Powered Plug-Ins, which provides support for Dual Processor mode for MAS format used by Mark of the Unicorn and VST format used by Steinberg and others. The UAD-1 and Powered Plug-Ins were developed by Universal Audio Inc. and are marketed and distributed worldwide by Mackie Designs Inc. Version 2.3, which provides Dual Processor support, is available as a free update.

Just one more little question if I may, is there any way to get a discount on plugins at the uaudio store if you purchase many at the same time ?

I believe there are vouchers for plugins for certain packages/bundles of the UAD....not sure what the current story is on this. Not really interested in UAD's..(but that's another story in another thread ;))

I have one of each. The Mackie has a smaller heat sink and reports a clock speed of 1006.89MHz, whereas the UA version reports a clock speed of 1006.65MHz and has a deeper black veined heat sink. Functionally there is no difference. The bundled plug-ins that came with the Mackie may have been different to the current bundle offers.

Yes, the Mackie came bundled with the LA-2A & 1176LN, in addition to the basic plugin pack (Pultec EQ, CS-1, Nigel, 1176SE & RealVerb Pro). So, after buying a used Mackie card and registering it @ UA website: http://my.uaudio.com/systems/add_hardware.html?cid=UAD
you get authorizations for the LA-2A & 1176LN, as part of the deal also. If you can get a Mackie at a decent price it saves you some money in the long run (LA-2A & 1176LN plugins, $298 value).

Yeah, there's a really cheap one going on eBay, thinking of snappin it up :D I think I'd have to add...

- Pultec Pro
- Plate 140
- Fairchild

Then perhaps in the long run add some Neve stuff.

The Neve's are great, but very processor intensive.

The thing that frustrates me the most with the UAD-1 is when you run out of resources during a mix and then you have to go trawling through all of the places you may have used something UAD to see if something native or a LE UAD version can be used instead. With 2 UADs and 2 Pocos and a RME the only way forward here DSP wise would be a Magma chassis. I'm currently looking for something native that can do that 1073 thing as well as the UAD does.

Hey cleverr, well luckily I have already built a great collection of native stuff so hopefully I'll be ok. For what it's worth, the most character filled native compressor I have is the Marquis which is very good.

However, I highly doubt it will touch the Neve on the UAD, worth a shot though :)

I'm thinking 1 Powercore will be enough for me, VSS3, MD3 and Virus are my primary reasons for considering the Powercore while the vintage compressors, EQs and plate verb is my reason for checking otu the UAD1.

I absolutely love the Marquis compressor and the Sonalksis compressor, if the UAD stuff is heading in that same character filled direction, I think I will absolutely adore the sound.
