I remember those days fairly well :D. Who would've think a company that made the Flight Simulator would become so "famous".

SubLogic?

Noooooo, MicroSoft Flight Simulator for PC, it was quite good at the time. But even then, I remember it coming on a bunch of floppies... typical MS :D.

Another nice article: http://blogs.msdn.com/larryosterman/arc ... 71346.aspx

and another one: http://melodiefabriek.nl/2006/09/01/a-s ... not-vista/

Quote: "Waiting is in fact the best thing to do. There's also no need to switch at all. I personally don't believe in extra features for the OS, I believe in less features. An OS should simply serve as an interface between hardware and software but these days an OS is a bag full of avarage software which I want to delete from my system." - this is a part of the response from one of the readers of the blog.

The guy thinks like me .

edit: this is an excellent one, too: http://www.itwriting.com/blog/?p=272 , read this first, in fact, many great links there and it concerns us - the musicians :D.

and, of course, SOS forum directly to "Vista for musicians - part2": http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/showf ... t=1#479514

and a very interesting article here: http://www.crn.com.au/story.aspx?CIID=85596

I still can't believe how slow Vista is on my wife's PC with 512MB of RAM. It reminds me of the days when I used to run Windows 3.1 on 4MB of RAM.

to complete your sentence :D...and it defies the purpose of buying a new computer to have a faster "computing experience". I think MS overdid [overbloat it?] it this time. I mean, they were bloating their systems for no good reason [for us] since MS-DOS, and they've never really done some serious work that people actually expect every time MS releases something new and that is:

1) optimisation of code for speed and stability - meaning *smaller*, faster and more stable OS.

2) compatibility with the new hardware

3) then and only then maybe 1 or 2 new features which you can but you don't have to install at all.

IMO, they should take XP instead and work on it forever just debugging it and optimising it, making it actually better, like the Linux community is doing. They'd have a killer OS that way. They should make it modular again - so we can install what we want like in w95 times without having to use 3rd party tools. Where MS is going with this current policy is called nowhere-land and demise. I mean, how many innovations or "innovations" can there be? How much did OS-X change in comparison and does that make OS-X an inferior system? I don't need anything more than what's in XP, just less, but thankfully nLite sees to it. My nLited XP install is stripped down to like 300MB and works excellent.

seems like MS is a hideaway for incompetent IT-diots.

Wait...

So you're eagerly waiting to use a Windows-alike... rather than just use Windows...

Damn straight. Then again, they should've done that with Win2k. +1

For a few chosen audio and video apps and plugs, yes. And, of course, only if there'll be no problems using those apps with it. For everything else I'm using Damn Small Linux, currently. If Linux had those apps, I'd be on it exclusively long ago.

watching Ubuntu Studio, too.

Yep. that's a nice article, too. I've read it before, but it's good to have all the links in one place.

Yeah. Especially dissapointing as by now, with XP, we have a fairly stable, compatible and more or less user friendly OS. And all of a sudden MS manages to completely f**k things up.
One of the reasons why I may perhaps switch to OSX indeed. Not any day soon, though, so far OSX is fine for my music needs and nothing else.
