Im considering buying this...
Good combo? I've read that its great with Cubase SX3. Any problems using it with Live 6?
I'm not quite sure i understand the differnce between automap and automap universal, but I don't really like the idea of having to wrap my plugins to get automap working. Whats the point of using automap universal vs the ableton live template?

Hey, i've got the remote SL25 and I use it with Live6. The software it shipped with is pretty 'meh', I never used the automap and just midi-learned things to what I needed as I produced and made myself a DJ template with all the midi learns done for me before hand.
The other day I tried the latest automap software, at first it broke my rewire to reason, but once i'd fixed that its been awesome. The universal automap is very handy, i've been using it on compressors, EQs, faders, sends, filters and all sorts of things I wouldn't midi learn, but having it already done for me, with a text label on the keyboard makes it really useful.

This is part of my message on this forum -"M-Audio or PCR-500"
"As I have mentioned before (or maybe not) Novation ReMOTE SL's offer fantastic semi weighted feeling keyboard with aftertouch (release velocity as well) - I can not think of any other controller (regardless of the price) that will do that... We are talking about real quality (players) keyboard here. Believe me, after my "Axiom experience", I have tried them all and nothing and I MEAN nothing stacks up against the ReMOTE SL keys... and you get no less than 72 pots, faders, buttons, dedicated transport controls, X/Y touch pad, 144 character LCD display, 40 scene/memory locations, AutoMap (that actually works)... etc, etc;
Bottom line - there is NO other keyboard controller on the market today (regardless of the price) that offers that much..."
Just buy it , You'll not regret it

Well I can't say I have tried them all but I'm not thrilled by the keyboard on my 61SL. I find the action a bit clunky and the keys are noisy when they spring back up. I have no regrets on buying one and this isn't a serious problem for me but I was surprised when I got the keyboard that I didn't find it as amazing as everyone else seems to. This is entirely subjective of course. I have a Roland SH101, JX3P, Alesis Photon X25 and Yamaha V50, I prefer the keyboards on all of these to the 61SL. My advice would be to try before you buy.Leslie wrote:I have tried them all and nothing and I MEAN nothing stacks up against the ReMOTE SL keys...

Ahh, v-50... that brings back memories and so does my beloved (RIP) Korg Wavestation eX which I still consider the best "master controller" on earth ("This is entirely subjective of course")
You are right of-course - "they" don't make them as they use to, but with the current "crop" of dedicated key controllers (seems like a lot, but not much to choose from) Remote SL's are still the best
BTW; maybe they are (ReMOTE SL's keyboard) a little bit "clicky", but which other key controller on the market today offers not only after-touch, but key release velocity as well "the keys are noisy when they spring back up."...?!

Im sorry for the dumb question but is the automap customizable?
Like If there is no map for X sampler or whatever I can create one of my own, or am I stuck with the bundled set by novation and likely official "patches" from them?

Yes you can, although I haven't needed to do it yet. For plugins using automap universal I think you can set it into programming mode, click a control on a VSTi, them move a control on the SL and they're mapped together..... or something like that. You can also map controls to MIDI CC numbers. All the manuals and some tutorial videos are available on the Novation website.

I'm using both. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I can't get the mixer in cubase to work in automap universal mode, so I have to switch to a template.parke02 wrote: Are you guys using automap templates or automap universal?

I'm not trying to be a "turd" here.......but I have tried almost all "controllers" (execpt cme which seems to get allot of complaints too) and can say without a question they (mostly) are plastic P's O CRAP!
OK, so to my point.........I want something durable! So I've started looking at more expensive (but can easily save dsp room) "real" controllers.......
The one I've tried and just
the keys on is the triton TR61
I don't mean to hijack (or to appear) this thread......I'm just wondering if there are any others like me who are a bit "fed up" with controllers and actually use this (or simular) with computer hardware?

hibidy, i'm in the same boat. I don't understand why keyboard manufacturers aren't realizing that the quality of the build is as important as the feature-set. The CME keyboards look an feel awesome and its unfortunate that they rushed the keyboards out with proper testing.
The novation sl keyboard's automap feature is great, but the build quality of the controller looks horrible. My opinion may change when I actually get mine, but from pictures it looks like a plastic toy.

"CME keyboards look an feel awesome" - You've got to be kidding of-course...CME keyboards look like they have been just painted a minute ago (using thick paintbrush) ... not to mention the "feel" of the keys... IT just doesn't stuck up to Novation Remote SL...
PS; Some time ago I have purchased CME Keyboard with Firewire Audio expansion option...Guess what..?
It have never arrived and will never do so... What a wonderful support.....
BTW; Come to think of it... Who the F**K is CME... Who is making them, who is behind them..?!

I ordered the 61-key SL.
Are you guys using automap templates or automap universal?
Eugene
automap in live and the universal plug wrapped around whatever external vst
the novation remote sl is probably the all around best controller you can get for computer studio imo.

the remote sl 61 build quality is pretty good. very sturdy and heavy and the key action rocks. good luck finding something better that does all the same stuff as well as the SL series for the same price.hibidy wrote:I'm not trying to be a "turd" here.......but I have tried almost all "controllers" (execpt cme which seems to get allot of complaints too) and can say without a question they (mostly) are plastic P's O CRAP!

the template editor, automap, automap universal plugs and the OS on the SL is great.

also keep in mind that Novation is constantly supporting it with new OS dumps, new templates, new automap support for current and upcoming stuff. it's a no brainer. you could spend $300 on a lesser controller, be unhappy with it, sell it, waste time, buy another one, repeat, etc, or just buy the one you know is pretty much the best there is for your computer music production and save yourself time and frustration over time.
i'm telling you the way the template editor works, and the way that automap works, and the easy instant editing of controls right on the synth, is the best experience i've ever had. the controller comes with a video dvd manual too if you are shy about electronic gadgets and need some hand holding.
the wrapper works incredibly well and it solves the "controller mapping" problem across-all-hosts because you define a single automap universal preset (with very cool features like range, steps, custom labels, and learn/wiggle methods) and bam, you dont ever have to remember how to do it again. the file is stored on your disk, and you can back it up for safe keeping. no other controller can offer you that.
you don't have to worry about how the host does it's controller mapping because you take it into your own hands with automap universal vst wrapper.
it's the best!
