That's exactly what I've been looking for! Heading over to vsampler's web right now! Hope it works with Live. Also, thanks for the Autohotkey tip. Looks a bit too complex for me, however.

i think developers just hate slicers, there even arguing about whether to give renoise a slicer or not, meh! to quote john lennon slicers are the women of the software world

If anyone uses Reaper, its own proprietary basic sampler (the Sampl0matic) supports d-n-d from the browser. While it's a basic one-shot/single sample player, it's fast and easy, and can function very similar to Impulse as a basic drum machine when "racked" together on a track.
I am to drum samplers what Stale Bread is to slicers, and it amazes me how many don't support d-n-drop from the host. In fact, I understand Battery used to but certainly doesn't anymore.

I agree. Hate. Fear. You name it. I wish slicers were not seen as separate products from samplers. I also wish all these samplers actually sampled. Until then I'll manually chop in Renoise or use the offset command which is a very quick and dirty way to chop stuff up (still not an excuse for a proper slicer tho).stale bread wrote:i think developers just hate slicers, there even arguing about whether to give renoise a slicer or not, meh! to quote john lennon slicers are the women of the software world

i completely agree. that's one of the things that has drawn me to renoise--the native editor/sampler...ModuLR wrote:I agree. Hate. Fear. You name it. *SIGH*..
The drag-and-drop situation with softsamplers is just dismal. Very disappointing. I think that the most hopeful alternatives are DirectWave 2 (currently being developed by Maxx at Image-Line) and Morgana.
It really is just pitiful. The softsampler vendors have totally screwed us over.

For now give these a try.

One thing to note about "D&D" in some softsamplers is that they can (VS3 can) automatically export the sample to a selected host. This is another reason why there may be no 'drag from sampler to host' feature.lordvader48 wrote:The drag-and-drop situation with softsamplers is just dismal. It really is just pitiful. Here's an update for MachFive V2:
Also I tried Edison to DirectWave in Live 6, that worked, although I couldn't get Edison to record audio, and it was generally buggy... And I couldn't drag from either edison or directwave to/from live directly.Drag & drop audio from host into MachFive
Many host applications support the ability to drag & drop audio from the application into MachFive.
Some host sequencers allow you to drag & drop audio directly from the sequence or audio file window into MachFive; however, due to the design of some hosts, it may not be possible in all host applications. In general, if you can drag audio from an application's sequence or audio file window to the Mac OS Finder / Windows Explorer, you can also drag audio from the host into MachFive.
The following hosts currently support drag & drop into MachFive 2.0 and later:
* Digital Performer
* Pro Tools
* Cubase
* Sonar
The following hosts do not currently support drag & drop into MachFive:
# Logic
# GarageBand
# Live
# Tracktion
Note that in these hosts, you can instantiate MachFive and drag & drop from the Finder/Explorer into MachFive.
If you have questions about a particular host or a particular version of a host, please contact MOTU Tech Support.

That did indeed help, but I can't seem to get DnD working in Live. anyway, VS3 looks like its going the way of abandonware....Lagrange wrote:Don't hold yer breath on it..jones-y wrote:The Vsampler manual is skimpy... Hope there's a better one in the installer.

That must be a Live thing, I've never had a crash or bug with the latest version of Edison in Audiomulch. I can drag from Edison to Mulch easily (you have to use the drag icon, not the wave form view) but can't do the inverse since Mulch doesn' have anything to drag. I can drag between Edison in Directwave no problem in Mulch, though.jones-y wrote:I couldn't get Edison to record audio, and it was generally buggy
Maybe pester Ableton for OLE support?

yeah with live i just have to setup a desktop folder, and keep it open dragging and dropping from there, at least it does work both ways and kind of a side benefit is that it keeps all the samples i'm using for a project more or less organized cause they all end up in that folder
