Why Virus is discussed more than other HW synths?

I don't get it. There other great HW synths out there like the Waldorf synths, Dave Smith's synths, Nord synths...etc, but the Virus is the only one that gets talked about to death. It really isn't necessarily better or more unique than the other HW synths on the market--so why? Is it because it's characteristic sound is what's hip ATM?

actually its no worse than a nord lead, one of the big waldorfs etc
but it is the most signature tarnce synth going
so lots of budding tarnce heads are very interested, as they know the name without knowing that it really is in no way superior, just different, to many other synths
think thats about it - the thing i find odd is that now that a couple of rappers have name checked the 808 lots of others come on abouts it's classic sounds

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

It's the iPod of the synth world...there's a million mp3 players, as there's a million synths, and it's a FACT that the more popular something is, the better it is, and more likely to make you, yourself, popular.

I think all the people who posted before me on this thread don't own a virus or use one a lot. The reason why it's talked about so much is bec ause it's a damn good synth. It's one of those synths that you just can't beat, no matter how much you rationalize that your software synths are "cooler" or cheaper or "have more features," because it's sound is so amazing. For that digital synth sound, this one can't be beat. It has a certain characteristic, and has a TON of personality that you don't get from soft synths. If you try one on good speakers while you're a in a good mood you should see all there is to see about this synth. Turn it up loud. It's worth it.
The vast range of sounds a virus can do is unprecedented. From the analog style stuff, to the crazy ravy, glitchy dnb type digital, it can do it. I can't seem to get 90% of the soft synths out there to create as much in-your-face-loud-i-have-some-balls patches as the virus. It's sound is LOUD and clear. Plkus you can tweak the crap out of it, and it tweaks in a MUSICAL way. I don't want to spend time getting too nerdy about it, but let's just say that it will INSPIRE YOU to make more and more MUSIC. Having this little synth on your desk with a sampler and you dancing around pressing buttons and cutting records is all you'll ever need.

It's the loud mouthed tarnce kiddies weapon of choice. Rarely used to actually make music it's advocates (the few that own one, its not compulsory ever to have heard one outside of a ferry cunstain opus) turn it on occaisionally, run through its one-fingered-symphony presets to assure themselves of its superiority then boast about it on the internet.*
A shame really because it's a well packaged modern va with reasonable effects and loads of knobs.

I owned a Virus B about 5 years ago, it sounded great and was easy to tweak.

There are a number of albums out there including 80% of just blaze's synths, newer dj shadow, cut chemist, missy elliot, any of dnb(including pish posh, ed rush's wormhole red and ram trilogy, pyro, stakka, etc), galapagos 4, timbaland, chamillionaire, the list goes on and on and on.
I've listed mostly hiphop and dnb because obviously most of you aren't familiar with these and so you wouldn't think the virus is being used on it.
NO! YOU DONT HAVE TO USE THE VIRUS TO MAKE THOSE STUPID ARPEGGIATOR SOUNDS. LIKE ZOMG! HAVE YOU HEARD NUFFLINKS SHITTY COMPUTER NOISE MUSIC? IT WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT HIS POSTS ON MUSIC. (laughs!)
