I already have a PodXT but I need a mic preamp. I might sell it to make some money back but then I dont usually sell my gear and might keep it as it could come in handy.

But it would be good to have a USB powered interface.

Now Im not sure whether to go with the UX1 or UX2. The latter has phantom power, does that mean I can use both dynamic and condenser mics? I want to get a SM57. I mean I dont need anything more than a guitar and mic, so the UX1 *should* be sufficient, but I would I need to get a condenser in future?

I'm glad I got the UX2. Much more flexible usage. Another way to look at it is that the UX2 will give you some room to grow without having to scrap the UX1 in order to move up a step or two (or three). Phantom power - yes, it allows for condensors that need power. Note that it's either on or off for both mic inputs at the same time, though. Nice to have the meters on the UX2 front. Also has a pad switch for high-output guitar/bass pickups.
