Hey, i wanna buy a phonic helixboard MkII 12 firwire. this mixer/interface has 10 channels but can I record them all simultaneously ? apparentely the Yamaha MW10 (which looks practically the same, save for the fact it uses USB instead of firewire) only records 2 seperate mono tracks simultaneously. Is it because it's USB ? is it because of cubase LE ? can anyone explain it to me please ?

I can't see why USB 2.0 couldn't do more than 2 in and 2 out but all the USB mixers I could find on the web were just this. By the way I have a Phonic Helix 18 MKII and it works fine over firewire. It's a cheap brand so don't expect the Earth, but functionally mine is OK.

It's just a different design. Yamaha decided for that mixer to only carry two channels (the master bus?) towards the PC, while Phonic decided to deliver all the seperate channels.
USB2 can handle that many channels with no problem. This specific Yamaha mixer uses USB1.1 which in theory can handle 1.5 megabytes per second. One audio channel of 16bits @ 48kHz takes 96kb/sec, so do the math and you'll find that USB1.1 is not the limiting factor (in theory that is...)

You're right, but for some reason nobody seems to make a USB mixer that does more than 2 in 2 out, at least I couldn't find one.C00kie wrote: USB2 can handle that many channels with no problem.
