Did i say hard is better than soft ----> NO
Did i called any of you stupid---> NO
Did I say going hard all the way was the best choice --> NO quite the opposite
Did I deny the fact that there alot of artists who have started using soft-only setups-in live concerts ---> NO
Did I deny that there a lot more people that use soft only for music production than hard only ---> HELL NO
Did I say that Hard offers more options than Soft ---> NO
Did I say that Hard sounds better than soft----> NOT in the case of worstations
Did I say that hard is more user friendly than soft ---> YES
Did I say that soft can be fragmanted that It can never be considered as a true workstation with the exception of REASON and ORION ---> HELL YES

contradicted by just one sentence in your next diatribe.

I could understand some arcane argument about the difference between analogue and s/w, or accoustic instruments vs. samples. But a s/w synth is a s/w synth whether it comes in a keyboard or in a PC. Personally I make no distinction whatsoever between downloadable s/w plugins and any digital h/w synth. The main difference is the physical control surface. The only conceivable sonic difference is the actual programming and differences in D/A converters - and quite frankly I'd rely on my soundcard converters to be far in advance of anything tacked onto almost any h/w digital synth.

I'll quite happily join in arguments about the better analogue synths. I do hear a difference for some of them. But digital synthesis is digital synthesis. I don't care whether my Wavestation comes in a boring black box with dodgy keys and a crappy LCD screen that breaks after 10 years, or in a PC with a Syncrosoft dongle. Likewise I don't care if my Motif comes in a keyboard with a few knobs on it, or in a fancy sampleset inmside a plugin sampler. It's all s/w that makes the noise.

So nowadays we not only have digital vs analogue - we have digital vs digital. may as well argue about how s/w sounds better when you play it with your left hand as opposed to your right.
Well a product is a product whether is soft or hard. My argument is very specific " you cannot replace the MOTIF experience at the moment with soft and if you could certainly not without costing you much more" , so the soft vs hard and digital vs digital means nothing to me. I love soft so I cannot really attack it cause I used it for 9 years. That would have been very stupid.

we have tried explaining this to him earlier.

Really where you see the contradiction, all the "DID I" point used to prove to you that appreciate the quality and the feature offered by soft but I further explained that features and quality is always limited especially when companies care only how to overflow with plugins and effects. Nowdays it only a "SPEC" battle . It is so sad!

Yes MOTIF is soft in a box , but also is more , much more

Does It bothers you that instead of "SOFT is cool" i say "SOFT is cool but". I am sure you would like to turn this thread to a soft vs hard , or MOTIF vs the rest of the world , but I am sorry , I am not going to indulge you .

Because if the s/w is in a box then its better because of QUALITY and you can remedy any inadequacies by using it with a DAW. So DAWS are not as good as software in a box. And DAWS cost more, even though you can buy them cheaper, and you'd have to buy one to do anything the software in a box can't do.

Says the man going on about '44 chorus effects on my Motif' as though that was a clinching argument.
Yes MOTIF is soft in a box , but also is more , much more
or less.

It seems to bother you that we dont say 'MOTIF is cooler'.

Then you really shouldnt have started by doing that , then.

Are you trying to claim that I said they were? Because, once again, that would be bullshit on your part.

I have a real hard (pun!) time with statements like "this is software and that is software so they are the same". "A Nord is software in a box, a Virus is software in a box". etc...

Programming software is an art like everything else. That's why, for example, some video games run fast and look great while other games run like shit and look terrible. They're both software in a box, right?

I side with a previous poster who mentioned that companies like Access and Clavia can afford the best of the best coders... and that quality shines through in the final product. Nowadays, most VSTs are coded by one or two people with some help from a UI artist and a some preset designers. They just don't have the resources that a company like Roland has when developing software. Native Instruments is getting up there, and they're probably the most respected company nowadays... but they aren't in the same league as the big hardware boys.

Like Apple Computers, when you control the design of both the hardware and software together, you're bound to get the best results.

I don't know if that's why hardware has that x-factor that software doesn't, but from my experience in working in the software world, the experience and knowledge of a world-class team of programmers supported by a wealthy synth company vs. a tiny VST programming team... I think the quality difference is a no-brainer.
