A Ferrari costs 10x more what I can afford to pay. But I am not telling the manufacturer that he is an idiot because he is selling it at a price that I can't afford.
I see this everyday, particularly on Audio forums. Where the cost of software is being de-valued. It kinda makes you not want to be a dev/coder anymore.
All these people that think you can just magic up some software from your a$$.
Forget the 100s of man hours involved in designing, coding, testing, debugging.

Sounds f**king fantastic. Seriously, the BEST thing I've heard when it comes to brassy instruments.
I can totally understand that some folk might not be too happy with the price. I mean, KVR isn't a forum full of industry professionals who make money with their craft, KVR is a forum full of (in the nicest way!) a bunch of jerk offs who love music to death. It's something they're passionate about, even if its just a hobby.
(I'm not saying there are no professionals here who work in the industry, but they are minority)
So it does follow that some folk wouldn't be happy about it having a huge price. Don't think its worth it, can't afford it, don't buy it .. fair enough logic. Nothing wrong with stating that. But lets not forget that some folk here are struggling to pay bills, raise kids, have a family, work a shit job, and still trying to find time to squeeze music into their busy lives.
So... a little empathy both ways, I reckon that'd help.
I certainly can't afford that kind of price. I mean, for that price, you can get a shit load of other software, as the other fella pointed out. He wasn't being a c**t in what he said, and he made some very poignant comments.
So Mr Horwood... less ranting and more compassion please. God knows the world needs it.

At $300, it's only a dollar a day including credit-card interest, for a year.ben_horwood wrote:[rant]

But the folks who would only pay $100, are typically frittering away their practice time, and sound$$$ in the drive-through, or worse.
I'd rather spend a years pocket-change on great sounds, keeping fast-food/drink to <=$10 a month

well, in the very end it turns out how bad you _need_ a this realistic approach that wallanders vsti gives you ...Amberience wrote:I certainly can't afford that kind of price. those who need it will gladly pay for such a software, no matter which else software they could buy for the money ...
see, if i want a big pool in my garden, and i feel i need it the most, i still know i could get 2 or 3 cars for that money ... but it's pretty useless, as i need a _pool_, not 2 other cars ... got what i mean ...?
you can turn it however you want:
if it comes to realism, this is the only softwaresolution providing it ...
you won't be able to do this with any other software up to date ...
so if you really need such software, there is only one way to go ...

I looked into it just for kicks once, and figured out that a nice, used 360 would require "only" about 3x the monthly payment of my Volvo. It would have been only my 4th biggest expense. It really surprised me, but it also made me realize why I see so many people driving such cars. I mean, if I "needed" a car that had a pussy magnet installed, the value would be there - that's easily 3X the car that my wagon is.ben_horwood wrote:[rant]

Oh and wait just a minute here. Entry-level coders in my shop, granted, a hybrid academic/state institution and not the kind of place where you maximize your income, get about $21/hour for designing, coding, testing, debugging, etc. You only need to sell 1500 copies of a $30 program to justify quitting your day job. If your potential market isn't even 1500 customers deep, KEEP YOUR DAY JOB.
PS. I'm slightly into the Bushmills, so check my math.
PPS. The single malt 21, not the blended rot.
PPPS. It is Ireland in a glass. Sorry Catholics.

The developer purposely sets the price out of the average hobbyist budget so he deserves the (soft) critics he gets.
There's also the Arturia Brass software for synthesizing brass, the guy is not alone on the market like some people said, perhaps it's better I don't really care, the Arturia is also too expensive for me.
A software (especially download version) is only worth the price you sell it. It's sad that 95% of the developers always try to charge the maximum they could get for their audio software.

Marketers with the slightest bit of intelligence and understanding, know where their product sits on a demand curve.GHOST19 wrote:

I assume those at the top of the price range, know damn well what they are doing. Especially, Adobe, Apple, but also Pyramix and SekD/Magix. Bias Peak, SAW, etc.
If someone is pricing a product, *any* product unprofessionally (according to a random guess, or factors other than than based on the demand curve) they deserve whatever comes to them.

Working fine here on both XT1.4 and XT2. DId you install the main program to a different folder than the one you installed the .dll file (your vst folder)?brok landers wrote:hmmm ... did anyone experience this with the trial:

You should try asking over at the WIVI forum.

About the pricing discussion. The price wasn't set to meet what people could afford to pay, but in the end we did some serious market research, and market is much too small for charging $100. Add to that, WIVI is a niched technically advanced application with lots of features the average user isn't familiar with, and this requires a lot of high-level technical support. What I'm trying to say is, the "sell four times as many for one fourth of the price" only works if you have an unlimited market (i.e. toothpaste
) and no expenses attached to the unit, such as support requirements. So while I understand the price is too high for some people, it's not a question of being good-hearted or not, it's a question of being able to sustain the project financially.
As a sidenote, I must also add that I think it's a bit unfair to compare WIVI to an educational version of Kontakt 2 for $179, when the original street price of Kontakt 2 was (and still is where I'm from) about $600.
Brok, that sounds awkward, as I'm pretty sure others aren't experiencing these issues in any graphics mode. Especially in Software rendering mode it should work on just about any PC setup, because that mode uses native Windows graphics to draw the GUI. Btw, what OS are you on, XP? You're not running Windows on Linux through WINE or something like that?
