Is there ever going to be a DirectWave that does direct from disc sample playing/streaming? As it DW is extremely limited by only using system RAM to play back samples.

It's something we want to implement, but it's not easy. When we can, DW will support it.

Let's hope that the Image-Line people don't waste time on implementing disk streaming in DirectWave.
There are so many products that already do streaming. With RAM prices the way they are today, I think streaming is a total waste. I hope that I-L will instead focus on providing proper sampler features - something that only DirectWave (and maybe 112db Morgana) currently provide at all.
If you want streaming, why not use Kontakt or Halion?

+1 Make it a real sampler first. Kontakt DFD works great for streaming.bluepride wrote:Let's hope that the Image-Line people don't waste time on implementing disk streaming in DirectWave.

Even with a couple of Gigs of Ram I find disk streaming is still useful for large samples - especially if you have many open at the same time.bluepride wrote:Let's hope that the Image-Line people don't waste time on implementing disk streaming in DirectWave.

On the other hand I always felt the idea of a plugin that records and edits audio to be a bit pointless considering it's a plugin (i.e. it sits inside a DAW - most of which can already record and edit audio) - I suspect that's why most Samplers don't have that feature (though drag and drop is useful - Live's Sampler/Simpler are great examples of that)). Better sample mapping etc however is more useful and the best samplers need to have effective and simple ways of converting samples into actual instruments.

Why not have a talk with WilliamK, he has implemented disk streaming for wusikstation.

More generally, it would be great to see a product that was a combination of DirectWave and WusikStation: the extended mod matrix and layers of Wusik combined with the zone view and instrument creation capability of DirectWave. Very good, yes?
