I don't know how many time will it take to be finished, but it could be a great entry to the forthcoming Kvr DC.

just noticed the bump shamann... it's still a work in progress at the moment. The mac slowed things down quite a bit as I've had to figure a few things out here and there. Tack on an increased workload at my job and a pending ear surgery which I've been fighting for over months... and you can see I'm officially working at a snail's pace unfortunately. It's not moving along as swiftly as I had hoped...

Don't get down, shit happens. I have an ear infection (rather it was attacked by some kind of virus it seems) that has messed up my equilibrium for the past week, so hearing about ear surgery makes me tetchy. My condolences.

i know progress is slow at the mo, but try not to let it slip too much, I'm yet to find the definitive slicer and hopefully you will come up with the goods
Oh yes, and a little suggestion, the end points of a slice should be independent from the start point of the next slice

bump for motivation
hope your surgery went well....
by the way, i know you're a Renoise user...I have just recently become a big fan myself....i don't suppose this slicer's workflow will lend itself to that environment?
good luck!

just noticed the bumps. The ear surgery went well. Appreciate the words ppls.
I'm 8 weeks post and I've pretty much got my ear back (sorta). Good enough, that I'm back to working on tracks (tho the headphones are only on one side..
)
The slicer project has me a bit stumped at the moment. Here is the current situation. As evident in the battery thread, what I really want is more than a slicer. I want a sampler that caters to very creative sampling + all the other bits which seems to be missing from nearly every sampler on the market. So far I've got it loading wavs/aiff, a basic browser, xp/osx, and pretty crude slice detection. Unfortunately reality has dawned on me. This project (to do it justice) would require a tremendous amount of work. I wasn't ignorant of this, but maybe (uhhh, definitely) a little over optimistic. There are large aspects of the code where I'm literally learning on the fly. The slice detection alone took me weeks of digging up articles, lots of trial and error, and it's still dicey detection at this point... and that's such a infinitely small part of what needs to be done. So, going full steam would mean no music for me + all spare time on the slicer (ahem, sampler). That would make me pretty miserable (let alone the wife would have me on the doorstep). So I'll continue at a snails pace, adding bits and pieces with the hopes that someone with a lot more experience will take creative sampling seriously and create such a product. If not, maybe I'll be the tortoise at the end of the finish line.
I can tell you now, the name will be Samplist if it's ever sees the light of day..

on a serious note, in terms of slicing and loop creation I think recycle is fantastic...
But I just think its missing a few things, and the way it browes file... is dispicable...
I also dont like the way it just scrolls on its own...
and somebody mentioned something like being able to move slices around as if they were objects...... arrg... Truthfully recycle should be like that.
but I guess that is why wavelab exists

I used to think the internet was going to unite mankind. Now I realize the internet is perhaps mankinds greatest wasteland of bickering, greed, and narrow minds. " And we all shine on, " Imagine that.

I always have such a tough time trying to imagine what I want a program to do but I aggree that a new slicer is needed.
One feature that I alway thought would be cool is if you could group multiple slices to a single key, as well as having each slice on a separate key. For example, the individual slices of a four hit fill could be mapped to F, F#, G, G# and the fill as a whole could be mapped to A. The midi file the plugin exports could be used to make sure the groups are always in sync with the host tempo, this way you could choose to trigger individual hits, portions of the pattern or the whole pattern at once.
