I want to sync my emx to my yamaha RS7000(master)for recording into live 6.I haven't dabbled much with midi before so it's a lot of trial and error atm

Problem is i can't hear playback from the emx the way i have things setup..

I have the RS7000 connected to a focusrite saffire le sending master clock to live and the second midi out connected to the midi in on the emx receiving clock from the RS7000.

Here's where i have the problem.I connected the midi out of the emx to the midi in on my remote sl and selected that as input on the midi track.Ableton is receiving the midi from the emx and i can record notes but i can't hear them on playback.I could just route the emx into the SL and have done with it but live won't sync the midi from the emx(issue with live).

I've tried different setups and i can do things seperately or swap cables when i want to record but to get everything playing back in sync this is the best way and i want to get it setup so i don't have to keep stopping'n'swapping! :hihi:

Midi thru boxes seem to be aimed at solving these types of problems, has anyone used one and which one would you recommend?

Thanks for reading, hope it makes sense :)

Audios connected!

When i hit play on the RS the emx plays in sync and i can record the patterns etc but when i play back the recorded midi part in live no sound.

Normally when recording from the emx in live i have midi in set to the channel of the emx and midi out to a different channel otherwise i get midi echo as i can't turn local control off(afaik). So i record the part then mute the emx and set the midi out channel same as midi in.Then i have playback of the pattern/synth part i recorded.

I'm thinking will it work trying to send the signal from th RS into the emx and from the emx into the SL and back into live

As i say i can record the patterns like this but no playback of the audio when i mute the emx.I'm sure theres a way to do it i just haven't figured it out yet,if live didn;t have the sync issue this wouldn't be a problem :x

I'll keep experimenting but one of those midi thru boxes seems like a good idea anyway :)

i know the audio thing was obvious, but i know i sometimes miss the obvious ;)

i use an 8x8 midi box from maudio, not the same thing i know but it means in orion or live i can see each individual piece of hw as its own input.
midi thru will mean setting up channels for eac piece of hw so each gets the relevant info. daisy chaining should work though, hope it gets sorted :)

Thanks vurt :)

It's a bit of a stumbling block, i want to keep the emx synced to the RS..i'll try sending midi out from the RS to midi thru on the emx and midi in/out from the emx into the SL..is that the correct routing?Haven't used midi thru before but i understand thats what it's for.I'll try it anyway.

Watch this space :hihi:

I seem to have got it working. The RS is master so i just adjusted track latency compensation for the saffire le and remote sl(which the emx is connected to)in lives prefs. And Bingo! :D

The notes now record in sync on the beat :phones:

Never thought i'd see the day.As for the audio i had it connected to the inputs on the RS and it may not have been transmitting to live so i plugged it into the soundcard.Anyway i now have audio when i trigger the parts back in live.

All sorted
