Its a crazy disco jazzy piece.. Pretty rare. Scores a 8 out 10 for obscurity...Lots strange vocal sillyness. You have to listen pretty far into the song to hear the parts your talking about. Make sure you listen to the whole thing! L
I got this as a re-release on the S12 label, with the A side being Weekend by Class Action...I have to say though, although Go Bang's got the vocals (female 'bango' refrain-thing) the bongo/conga break seems to be a different pattern. I think it comes from a different track. I've got it playing in the background, and the 'bango's' have just kicked in... not hearing the conga playing alone; there's some noodling over the top, bass, keys and now a kick.

There's definitely some heavy sampling going in the Todd Terry track from Go Bang, but its not the conga I'm looking for, I'm pretty sure...

but thanks for the heads-up Lagrange!

nah, you're not missing anything, no samples on discogs - i just put that there for a reference - if you like, I can send you a section of the Barefoot In The Head track with the conga loop in question, see if you recognise it? Like I say, I'm just looking for a sample ID.

*edit* actually, you know what - after listening to it properly, think i might just have go at recreating it - if i can get the tone right, the pattern's pretty simple.

There is this one as well.. these are all in wav, and so far 99% that I have tried work in Live (and I would guess they work in other hosts as well), as opposed to some (edit- wavs) that you might dl from an online site..

One at a time, I'm afraid. Worth it though. :D

...I remember some Cymande tracks, but I have to look. Usually I don't have many albums from a particular artist from that era, but rather compilations (obviously), since most of the time they offer a better sound quality and diversity (I also like their liner notes, too).

@all the others - thanks for your kind words. I upload them one by one because of various reasons. First of all, if I would release a big pack there wouldn't be anything available, yet - it seems that I have quite a lot of stuff to sample from and the slicing really takes some time as well as making some decisions. Second, I think of the whole thing more like a blog or maybe some sort of mini encyclopedia - if the download links would disappear some day (they will - I decided against some permanent hosting because of copyright reasons) there will always remain the preview files, which are hosted by DOA. You could always use these for research. On the other hand there are always many big breaks packs available at DOA (mostly just collected stuff with bad sound quality sometimes, I might add :D ) - you can download these, too, if you wanted to have more breaks. I have also put up some list about breaks I am working on in the DOA thread. That list is more or less up to date - if you're in search for a specific break you can look if I have it and request it (but I'm also always really interested in new suggestions, too - bought a Meters album because of a request recently)...

Post

How do I use the preview function on DOA?
A big pack one day still would be very cool. You could include a .html (saved from DOA) in it with all the fun factoids and commments. :)

Post

...you have to be logged in to listen to the files.

I'm unsure about releasing a big pack as I don't want to commit any copyright infringement. Actually I think, I might do already, but I do it more or less with a clear conscience since I think, the cultural aspects of using these breaks outweighs any legal considerations (at least in the way I provide the files now, I think). However, I don't want to get into any trouble, so I'd like to keep my head low (and neither there isn't much a laywer could get from me nor do I think I might be a good trial example  :D ). I have already stated this on the first page of this thread and also on DOA - it's rather up to you folks to look after getting everything. I provide the files, if and how long they'll stay is not my business - I hope, this is O.K. for you...

Post

A bump for these excellent breaks, in case anyone misses them.

Post

Well if no one else is gonna bump this I guess it's down to me, some quality gear here :D
