The people that listen to my work are my clients and their audience. And they pay for it.

I never said i'm a gearhead anyway.

Interesting...how much? Probably expensive one.

Ok, well I'm an amateur and not much of a "gearhead", but here is an ambient techno tune I created using only a Nord Lead 2X and some delays, with a light limiter on the output. No reverbs, EQ, phasers, etc...

Nothing spectacular, but was a lot of fun! :)

There are certain old synths I'll never get rid of, and some VSTi that I hope to be able to use for ever (PC and OS depending in the future... :? ), as they all do their own thing uniquely.

One thing I certainly do notice though is that I make completely different music with s/w and h/w.
I wouldn't necessarily say one is better than the other, but there are obvious differences.

With h/w, I tend to have far more simpler arrangements, less fancy riffs, but I'll play to great extent with the actual synth sounds - I pay great attention to sonic detail. Lots of fluidity and movement, parts merging organically into other parts etc, but not necessarily much musical variation.

The s/w stuff has fancier arrangements, less attention to sonic detail, but definitely alot more musical variation and big sweeping changes.
And I play around with FX etc much more.

My mixes are probably a bit better with the s/w stuff (cleaner, rather than "better"), my h/w stuff is often a bit muddier, less transparent, but big forceful sounds.

But I do know I always "enjoy myself" far more when I twiddle h/w knobs. Even if I never finish a song often that way - the fun factor is huge, and that's really what I do it for - not for the "song".

And...no I'm not going to link to any songs...I don't even have a website. Not going to either. I don't make my music for anyone but me, and I don't use my h/w or s/w for anyone but me. It even takes the missus a fair bit of persuasion for me to play my tracks to her. Dunno why, but to me playing my own music in public is a bit like whipping out my todger on flopping it on the desk at work. Mkes me cringe. Don't know why and don't really care either. I have no public any more (I used to, but never felt comfortable with it) and don't want one. So there :P

^^ seconded on the privacy thing, yes me too, even with the significant other.

so the missus has to persuade you to get your todger out?
mine doesnt even get to finish asking once...

tronam - nice work btw. We have the same synth (rack version here) so it's good to hear some examples of multitimbral NL2 work - aside from the "interesting" (ahem) clavia demo.

If you're going to buy a new analog poly it's the cheapest one you can get. There are'nt many of those around nowadays.

I mentioned to a friend that perhaps I should get a Prophet-8. He suggested I just turn down the digital oscillators on my PEK.

How much it truly differs from the Evolver series remains to be seen...
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Definitely doesn't sound amateur and that 303 is well squelchy

How did you link your song so that it played in media player?

Actually had a chance this morning to play a Virus TI, a Lead 3, a PolyEvolver and a Moog Voyager side by side [they're on the wall in soundcontrol Manchester UK if you're interested in doing the same].

Each had a wonderful sound that I would recognise instantly [rich, cool, harsh and historic, in that order] - and all were built well. I noticed that the Korg Radias looked like the poor relation, and for me was paled into insignificance by the 'big boys' of pure synthesis in its various forms. The only one missing was an Andromeda, and if Soundcontrol put one next to these, they'll have the best place in the UK to choose a £1500 synth...

Anyway, I'm glad I bought the right one. The Virus for me even outperformed the Voyager, a synth that I have an unreasonable gear lust for...
