Hiya, I have several sample CDs (mostly of synth drum sounds) in Akai, Giga, and maybe some other formats that I would like to use with a software sampler. I use Cubase SE as a host and hope to find a sampler plug-in that has good sound quality, is easy to use, and can easily import various sample formats. It would be nice if it had a subtractive filter, and it would be really nice if it wasn't too expensive (under $200?).
I did some searching and thought Kompakt would be perfect, but it seems to be discontinued. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Should I still try to get a copy of Kompakt? I've had very little sampling experience and don't really want to become an expert, simplicity would be really nice.

SampleLord maybe. Imports most common formats and is on budget. Have'nt tried it myself though so i don't know much about it.

Thanks for the suggestion... I'd seen that one, but I don't think it supports akai format. Otherwise, it looks really interesting.

Maybe VSampler would do the job. Should import all sorts of filetypes fine and it's under 200.

Yes Vsampler will import most formats. The downside is that it does not work very well with all especially halion type formats. Depending on how patient you are, it may take a while to get it down pat.
If you get Extreme Sample Converter you can basically change formats to most popular formats. Couple it with SampleLord and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the suggestion. I see they are both made by the same company and can be purchased as a package. This could work for me.

I would say look at Shortcircuit by www.vemberaudio.com
Not all that pretty to look at but very very useable. Think it supports most formats.

one of the best around, in my opinion, and has been well worth the money. check out the free duophonic version to get an idea of what it can do. wait 'till you see what's in the 'filters' list
