Headphones for monitoring?

Alright, seems like either one of my speakers or my amplifier is busted. I've thought about upgrading to proper monitors for some time, but as I'm not really ready to make that investment yet, I'm thinking of getting a good pair of headphones in the meantime.

I've been looking at some AKGs (the K240s and K271s), but how well-suited are they for mastering purposes?

A friend is going to let me try his AKGs and I'll probably try to demo a lot of other cans, but I'd really like to hear your opinions about them, or any good alternatives out there. If there are decent options in the $200 range I'd be very interested in hearing about them

AKG's rule, I'm very impressed with even their entry-level stuff.
