Writing Music For Hit Songs by Jai JosefsHewitt Huntwork wrote:Try Writing Music for Hit Songs. I forget who wrote it, but it was good. Don't let the "hit" part fool you.
If you're new to song writing, you need to start somewhere. Reading a book and applying what you've read is investing time and effort.Martin E wrote:I don't think you learn writing songs by reading books. You need to invest time and effort developing your songwriting skills.

The Captain is absolutely right. If you have to consult books for knowledge, you're a wanker!Captain Planet® wrote:Just my personal take, but if you need to read a book on how to write songs to write a song, you should take up knitting.
Seriously, I've spent a lot of time working in bookstores, and there are OODLES of books about knitting. So, Captain, you've insulted not one - but two - groups of artists there!

I own this book as well. Personally, I think it's a great book because it helps with the theory behind songwriting, including chord substitutions and such. But it's not much in the way of lyrics. Everything else though is great in it.Hewitt Huntwork wrote:I found "Song" not insightful. Try Writing Music for Hit Songs. I forget who wrote it, but it was good. Don't let the "hit" part fool you.
