Can't find a proper manual on this thing, so it's not really clear what it's MIDI port can do. Probably it has only a midi IN port, no output. So you'd need a box that converts DMX messages to MIDI which would cost more than a 16-fader (or two 8-fader) MIDI control surface.

I was just wondering if the thing has bluetooth video. I looked into bluetooth and though video is apparently planned it ain't something available now.

I still am hazy on whether the USB allows the thing to be a second screen (which would be soooo sweet) but being that it's sold as a GPS map thing the marketing is quite unspecific.

As to the Lemur I can see it being super-useful for myself as a Usine user (which natively supports Open Sound Control) but it doesn't show the GUI of the freeware plugs and that's the entire point of what I'm always after: an expressive interface for a supercomputer to run VST DSP.

I'll post anything else fun I find.

Been a while since I went hunting new controllers.

Besides, if I had $3,349 to spend on a control surface I'd save up the extra $650 and get the Wireless Touchscreen and bypass all the lack of immediacy.

A warning about Tiger Direct: google for tiger direct complaints and read up on their business practices before ordering from them. You can get a great deal or you can get a months-long nightmare, depending how the dice roll. :-(

A sub-warning: The website http://www.tigerdirectcomplaints.com is actually owned and operated by Tiger Direct! It contains few or no complaints, just predictably glowing praise. You can safely ignore it and proceed to other, less biased sources.

I now have a new found appreciation for lunchmeat. Twenty-four-year-old computer engineering graduate and musician Shaduz from Bologna developed a MIDI glove which can be used to manipulate music and sounds. The 3DID MIDI glove just isn't any glove, though—it's wireless and was built for about 150 euros, or $180. The glove features three gyroscopes, three accelerometers and 18 hours of battery life. It also has five "bend" sensors in the fingers for bending and manipulating musical instruments. Perfect for softsynths. To really get a feel for the glove, you'll need to watch this video of Shaduz DJ-ing minimalistic techno with it and manipulating the sounds perfectly. One of the most original and coolest musical creations in years.

This is how dubbyah and I met here on KVR: renitent, fanatical insistance that things could be (and often are) vastly more developed than the typical pro music companies have to offer. They are the lowest common denominator, though obviously their gear has a completely different set of benefits including large user-bases, tech support, build quality... but they don't offer the CONTROLS we need.
