It's called ducking and can be achieved with side chain compression as shown in this tutorial:

I've always wanted to try that, but I always thought that VST effects only supported one stereo input. I see I was mistaken, thanks for this

That effect is like bread and butter when it comes to four on the floor, especially in house music. It's also used in a lot of hiphop, the kind of hiphop that sounds like JDilla, because h'es from detroit, and well everybody knows detroit techno right? So a lot of hiphop that comes out of that area has that influence.
