I finally have a pc with enough power and space
I am looking for some good orchestral sound banks
Either free or fair priced
Do any of you guys have experience in using orchestral sounds and if so do you guys have some tips or links for me ?
Thanks

I used to use free soundfonts but since buying EW Silver I haven't needed them.
I think Silver is your best bet for a good value solution.
If money is tight then try searching sf2midi.com
From memory, there's Squidfont, Vienna Strings, Roland Orchestral Rhythm.

My advise is to shy away from sf2 and wav altogether. Sft for the most part offer a lo-fi sound and wav is not flexible enough when it comes to editing sound parameters to achieve correct sound. I would lean in the direction of Hypersonic 2. Good Timpani's, Strings, Horns, Ethnic intruments and great combi's.

id say either the EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Silver Edition, as mentioned, or IK Miroslav Philharmonic Orchestra....in my opinion, both are equally useful....but each have stronger points than one another...

Meh. Soundfonts are fine, provided you know what you're doing- if you don't, then, well, you're f*ked.
Squidfont is good, with above proviso.

This is a little bit of a late response, but I should let you know that there are some really good orchestral instruments at samplebase.com. I work for the company, and personally, our orchestral stuff is some of my favorite of the products we offer. They are all sampled (with permission) from the Vienna Symphonic Library. Check out VSL's artist page on Samplebase to listen to the demos: http://samplebase.com/vsl (http://samplebase.com/vsl)Hope this helps,

samplebase registration system is wacked, 10 minutes to get a download link.. then
"You requested this version of Satellite 47 minutes, 58 seconds ago."
just make a direct download link and stop the insanity.

Ah yeah, sorry for the inconvenience, Topaz. We had an issue last night with Satellite downloads due to heavy site traffic. We've since resolved the issue, so if you try again you should be fine.
Unfortunately, we can't provide a direct link to Satellite because of the way Satellite is personalized to your account.

Doh! Really sorry about that, Boybird. Yes, we had the same issue last night from 1:15am to 6:30am PDT. Everything is up and running again, and our web developers are currently working double-time to permanently resolve the issue.
We just announced our website on Tuesday, so it's been pretty crazy here ever since. However, we are determined to create a smooth user-experience. Thanks for the patience.

Agree, these are well worth checking out and reasonably affordable.LOOPxDIGGA wrote:id say either the EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Silver Edition, as mentioned, or IK Miroslav Philharmonic Orchestra....in my opinion, both are equally useful....but each have stronger points than one another...
