What are the pros and cons of a macbook pro and a pc laptop used for live purposes (performance).

How well does windows run on a mac?
Could any problems occur that you wouldn't experience with a pc laptop?

If you want embarrassing gaps in your live show caused by Windows glitches and blue screens of death, a PC laptop is definitely the way to go!

whatever you're used to.

i saw 'fourtet' play last year with 2 x Sony Vaoi's.
he worked them constantly for about 3 hours.

the majority use Macs for live- but really - if you know how to set up a PC
and test it thouroughly go for it. the use of Macs for live is in some part-
superstition.
REMEMBERING TO TEST A PC THOUROUGLY and don't buy a consumer model PC laptop - spend as much as you would on a Mac.
i use a mac at the moment - that's JUST because i wanted a change.

I play regularly liveshows (ie. almost every weekend) and made switch just 2 months ago from pc laptop to Macbook. Haven't really looked back, my pc was crashing few times in front of 1000 people in a club. Not good. Then again, my pc laptop was getting a bit old (P4, 3ghz) and was a cheap brand... You get what you pay for I guess.

A good quality laptop with solid, stable software and no additional crap installed will work fine, whether Windows XP or OSX. I've had Ableton Live crashes on both Windows and OSX using bad / incompatible plugins. Stopped using them, problem solved, no crashes on either platform.

If you're getting constant crashes, stuttering, blue screens and kernel panics or other crap with your live computer, it's most probably because 1) buggy software or 2) crappy hardware / drivers... not the operating system.

i am pretty much happy with my intel pc laptop dual core 2ghz T7200 /2047 mb of ram /ATI Radeon X1700 512 Mo / 1024 Mo HyperMemory
the only problem is its weight as it is 4.4 kg
but a lot of people are using pc laptop as venetian snares or aphex twin

Does anyone use Windows on a Mac? Does it work just as well?

I was thinking of using the laptop as a recording device as well. If I get protools then I can have a mobile recording system with a mac or maybe even do something in film. Does anyone know of the standards for film recording?

My personal music mostly consists of PC software though.

Does Ableton Live work better on a PC or Mac?

Is it better to use DJ software on a PC or Mac? (something like serato, deckadance, etc.)

Do most people who used a macbook and a pc agree that macs are most stable?

Hi,

just my two cents, but I know about prople using both, and the main drawback for a mac is the price. Other than that I do think that the main thing is to keep your OS clean, and use reliable plugs and softwares ( tested on a long period at home ).
Oh and I run a PC laptop with 256Mo RAM and a 500 Mhz, rock solid with an old school Tracker.
But I guess you're heading for new hardware..
