Hi,
I appear to be a version behind with Sonik Synth. I already own ST2.2 XL, SS1, Symphony Strings, Piano Collection, Acoustic Drums, Guitar Collection and Bass Collection. (also Axe and Brit Horns). What, (if any), would be the advantages in upgrading to SS2 from this position?

Thanks,
Roger

You'd get a ton of new synth sounds that could be loaded into your ST2.2 interface or could be used through it's own interface. It's maybe some more of similar soiunds, but I don't think there's real duplication, except some of the SS1 sounds made their way into there. I actually prefer a lot of what's in SS2 to whats in ST2, sounds-wise. I think there is a way to purchase just the sounds at some amount of discount, but I may be wrong and it may be just the cross-grade pricing as usual.

Hi Roger,
You might want to browse through this detail from Esoundz - always a great way (& prices) to buy your gear!

Thanks guys,
I'm asking this question here hoping for something like a detailed list of what I'm missing. I'm also curious about the quality of SS1 vs SS2 sounds within the current engine. Is there any difference between an SS1 patch and its SS2 equivalent when played through ST2.2?

Thanks,
Roger

No real quality difference except for updates and improvements in the programming, tons of additional samples (at this point it's been years since we made the change so hard to remember). It's a drastic difference though. For one thing, the child presets didn't even exist in SS1 and that as well as the combis are a big part of SS2. It's night and day!

I decided to buy SS2 for the additional sounds. Not that I'd felt short with what I had already, but for a fairly small outlay an additional 6Gb seems like a good bet without diving into the details. One thing I am curious about though - does the SS2.x plugin module do anything that the ST2.x doesn't? I'm just wondering if it's worth installing.

Thanks,

Roger

No not really. It does allow you to put the sounds somewhere else though. You can have to two plugs pointing to different HD locations. Other than that it's aesthetics. But you can also choose to read your SS2 sounds from ST2

By the way guys ST2.5 is coming. It's a free upgrade for ST2XL users.

Do you have a date when the ST2.5 update is coming?

Hey Devon.

ST2.5 should be here around the middle of the month. Pre-orders on esoundz will start next week. Although for anyone who already owns ST2XL it's a free downloadable update. Gotta love that!

Oh, I forgot to mention to everyone but now that ST2.5 is released ummmm.... this is what we were waiting for to do Studiophonik right. The ability to have an insert of effects that goes on the WHOLE module as well as the ability to do send and return effects all inside the module. To be honest, I've never liked the fact that the reverbs in ST were only inserts because if you wanted reverb on every part internally you had to re-use it over and over which takes up CPU. So, now you can run one reverb (even the CSReverb from Philharmonik that now comes with ST2.5... again for free as an update for ST2 XL users!) and just send parts to it like you would when mixing. With Studiophonik being a "studio in a box" for a virtual highly realistic band this was crucial for it. So first comes the engine then comes the products people have been waiting for like this one. Also SampleMoog and SampleTron too. All coming within the next couple of months.

Got ST2 XL sitting on my shelf waiting for the 2.5 upgrade before I got started. :) Is there a list of what all was upgraded? Sounds? New patches? Just engine enhancements?
