Amp sims as, well, amp sims

KV, first let me say that lately my mind has been pretty much jello
...but I agree 1000% that bad mic'ing shouldn't be an excuse....nor is it the only reason that might cause the issues Niksounds states...it seems to my mush brain we're saying the same thing...
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I agree 100%!guitarzan wrote:Like susiwong posted, the sensitivity of the amp sim to touch (pick attack, etc) is the most important thing - and it's not just the obvious "pick soft=cleaner, pick harder=more distortion" thing. There is a lot that happens to the tone after the initial attack in a good tube amp...there has been developement in that area in amp sims though (ReValver MK II, esp the Ktty model and Studio Devil BVC have quite good touch response IMO - enhance with compressors) and I think that is the area where amp sims will eventually evolve beyond mimicking hardware amps.
Once the subtle touch sensitive envelope of tube amp attack, bloom, sag, sustain and decay is more fully anylised and implemented in amp sims, the same type of envelope can be used to control many aspects of the tone in a very organic way that will seem natural to guitar players, at least to the ones who have used tube amps extensively. Could be as mild as a unique new amp or as wild as a synth but with more human control than is possible with a keyboard.
Credit where credit is due: Fretted Synth - one guitar software developer who is not trying to mimick any existing amp models, and possibly the first to be headed beyond imitation altogether with his audio triggered synths, and the synth-like gate/filter section in Free Amp 2.

Yeah, go ahead and do this. I'd be interested in what you come up with.Mokafix wrote:I might do an interface and make a new thread for it to see if some people are interested in adding stuff to it.
I already started such a colab last month, but had no much participation for now (might be due to holidays too).
The Vst-amp loads as an instrument, so how does non-MIDI input get routed to it? It can't be chained to a preceding VSTi. I get increased volume from another VSTi that's also loaded, but no amp effect seems obvious enough to hear.

It's not just the sound quality of solid state vs tube, it's the way a good tube amp reacts to your touch on the guitar. I have yet to play a software amp or solid state amp for that matter that gives me the rich sound and feel of a good tube amp.
sorry if this has already been stated btw, I Didn't bother to read through multiple pages of posts.

Great! I seen the list of your FA3 progress on that ADSR Envelope filter for guitar? thread and it seems like it's coming along pretty well - low CPU use!! Can't wait to check it out! Will it be out in time for DC 2007?FrettedSynth wrote:Thanks Guitarzanguitarzan wrote: Credit where credit is due: Fretted Synth - one guitar software developer who is not trying to mimick any existing amp models, and possibly the first to be headed beyond imitation altogether with his audio triggered synths, and the synth-like gate/filter section in Free Amp 2.I really do want to create something different? Can I do it
IMHO YES
I don't think the new amp will let you down when it comes to new and not tried technology for the guitar.

Erhhh... my Vst-amp isn't an amp sim, it's a vst driver for behringer v-amp series
