Directwave's VSTi "sample" function. How effective?

Has anyone used Directwave's ability to sample another vsti?
And if so...does it do a good job and is it hard to do?
Reason I ask is that my host of choice doesn't have the built-in synths that another host I bought does, and those synths are for that one host only. So I figured I could take the sounds I want into DW then they'd be available for use in the other one.
Any thoughts here?
Thanks a lot,
- Paul

I don't think that would work. If the synths in question only work in that one host, Directwave won't be able to host them either to do its VSTi sampling mojo. You could still record the output of the synths into Directwave by using its audio inputs, but then it isn't automated like the VSTi auto-sampling feature.

Ive used the feature in highlife and I found it to be pretty interesting. Works pretty well. I would not use it for extensive sampling of a patch because at that point the cpu/memory tradeoff probably isn't worth it.

Did you ever consider doing it like this
#1 Choose your VSTi that you want to sample
#2 In piano roll or whatever your preferred midi editor is click in each not for a good amount of time (you can use thirds because its still used quite a bit)
3# Have your DAW Export the track to Wave file at the sample rate you choose
#4 Use a sample editor such as Audacity or Sound Forge, or Wavelab dependant on your useage. Cut each wave to label them with key Sound Blah Blah Blah
or if its drums just name the Sounds according to Instruments Like Snare
#5Load them into Directwave
I know it seems like a lot of work, and it is . But its worth it when you need that specific sound.
Just my Opinion
Don't shoot me

#4 can be made a bit easier with waveknife or recycle to get the single files, also renaming tools come in handy...
...IF your host is Ableton Life and your trying to sample Operator try the following: use only one note per clip and preferably one track per note, i.e. all the C's in one track. Hit freeze and rename just the files with the desired name and their pitch with a renaming tool - the files are already properly "cut" and numbered...

From the Image-Line web site:
"Built-in VSTi host to easily automate "sampling" of your vst instruments directly into DirectWave"
Yeah, I am going to have to try that with the limitations of the host to it's own plug-ins.
I was actually wanting to get some of the sounds out of some of the Cubase 4 stuff (Halion One) and put it into Directwave to use in another host I find better for one or two applications. Some of the bass guitars in H1 fit one of the things I need it for but I don't know C4 at any sort of decent productivity level.
Hey, thanks for any more ideas.
@Jadan, thanks a lot - I actually did that with one of the drum kits but it took freaking forever. I don't have a lot of experience with Directwave, but if it saves time, what the hey, right?
Thanks again, all,
