Hi there

I want to use my M-Audio Axiom 61 midi controller to control my Roland XP10 (keyboard broken, but sounds are fine). I've set it up and right now I can play tones, choose different instruments and use the basic midi cc's as reverb, modulation, pitch bend etc.

As the Axiom have all these nice sliders and knobs I would like to also control attack time, vibrato depth and all these other things defined in the GS standard. Apparently this requires something called NRPN. Having read the manual of both the Axiom 61 and the XP10 I still dont understand what I'm supposed to do. So... if a midi expert out there own an Axiom 49/61 could you please (in plain english) tell me which buttons to push on the Axiom to make... say... slider D9 control the attack time?

I guess that Roland XP10 follows the standards for GS (why shouldn't it?), and I think it should be able to recieve these NRPN messages via MIDI.

Thanks... :-)

Guessing isn't good enough. You need to dig up your owner's manual of the XP10 and have a good look at the Midi Implementation Chart, usually found at the very end.

It's possible that what you want to achieve can't be done with NRPN messages but only via sysex messages. In that case there's no easy solution I guess...
My MusicCalc is temporary offline.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. :borg:

hmmm....I looked it up and it says:

Control change 1-31, 64-95 are transmitted and recognized and are "selectable" (Whatever that means).

The other control changes are assigned to volume, pan, reverb etc... the normal stuff.

Finally CC 98 and 99 are assigned to NRPN LSB and MSB. These messages are only TRANSMITTED when changing tones or sending setup data, but are RECOGNIZED (just as the above parameters) and again selectable(?).

Furthermore on page 80 in the manual there's a table with NRPN MSB/LSB messages that can be recieved and among these are vibrato, filter and envelope parameters, but I must admit that its pure nonsense to me (a lot of hexadecimal stuff)

If you want to have a look the XP10 manual is found here: http://www.synthman.com/roland/309000.html

So... I think info needed is there - I'm just to stupid to put it together ;-)
