so as a long time user of FL i've been recently digging deep into it. it's amazing what v7 can do. freaking work of art. the browser is sick, check this out:

you can organize your plug-ins however you like in the browser. do this by adding a new channel, choosing more, then instead of ticking the check mark (so they are thrown in a big mess with the fl generators -- not fun since this list is sorted alphabetically so hard to see host specific and your external plugs as groups) just double click the one you want to insert it. now that you have inserted it, save the channel state to a folder of your choice on disk. add that folder to your files settings. repeat until you have added all your favorite plug-ins.

do the same for effects, except use the effects preset channel state file menu (the little pop down arrow menu in the effect slot).

now that you have your stuff sorted you can drag/drop right into the step seq to insert them in your project. if you drag under onto the blank area of step seq it will add a new channel. if you drag onto a current channel generator button in the stepseq it will replace it.

the best part: channel states contain snapshots of everything you setup in your plugin so they are instantly recalled. think of the power here for a second. you can create entire favorite systems for your presets for each instrument in a folder; say wusikstation and then organize however the hell you want. the channel state when dragged onto the stepseq will recall all the settings. it's much easier than using the fiddly file menu in the plugin wrapper imo too.

did you know that you can drag and drop FXB and FXP presets right onto the freaking wrapper header? that's so hot! you can drag/drop banks, individual presets, channel states, midi files, wave files, it's amazing.

flstudio browser is freaking awesome for productivity. think of how much time you can save with that alone. the great part of it is it uses your windows disk management to move/rename/store the files inside so you can organize to your hearts content without any need for kore, etc.

the amount of drag and drop support in fl is awesome. you can drag right to the sampler waves.

did you know that you can use 3xOsc and a custom waveform at once? i didn't. add a 3xOsc then simply press the ? button (which is custom wave) then drag from browser onto the sampler waveform window a wave file.. there now your 3xOsc is using your custom waveform.

this may be basic but fl has so many little things like this that i forget about/didn't know about.

:hyper:

i don't need phrazor or kore, this with ext and saving ext channel states with my chains loaded is going to save me tons of time. you can drag stacks of effects this way right into one single effects slot in fl (drag/drop the effects channel state to the slot itself as a target).

so damned helpful/smooth/fast to use. i always hid the browser and did everything the old fashioned way except when i was looking to load stuff into the sampler channels not knowing i was missing out on such rapid workflow goodness.

i'm gonna do some footwork if no one has already and compile a list of drag and drop functionality so that i can take advantage of this massive speed increase in my workflow as much as possible. it's too cool

ok so if you knew this already, dont flame me :) just excited to discover and share this with others.

hey i agree fl is amazing, the funcionality is second to none imo.
I love it and find just about every other host a pain in the ass.

great post so what if everyone else knows but you and me, I can't wait for your compilation of tips by all means please keep them coming :tu:

stale bread; i'll be sure to post it when i have it compiled.

I've been using FL for about a year but still haven't picked up on lots of stuff, I'm sure. I really appreciate your post, grymmjack, I knew some of the browser basics, but didn't twig to how far you could take this (and didn't know at all about the custom waveform in 3xOsc).

Very useful info.

Load ALL your synths and FX into a project (if your PC can handle it), then export project bones - voilà - a folder with all your instrument .fst files and a folder with all your fx .fst file in - just move these wherever you want and access from the browser.

I can't get fxb's or fxp's to load - even though the browser gives them "vst" icons and the cursor changes to a "+" when I drag it over the wrapper's header, but nothing happens.

Would also be nice to be able to drag .dll's too.

Dont' forget the "current project" node -

History - contains your undo history
Automation - broken down by pattern - click to view - also includes piano roll as well as automation
Generators - a list of all your instruments AND ALL their parameters
Remote Control - a list of all your connected controllers (including internal one)

spectec; it's over the blank area of the toolbar in-between the name, open icon on the left and the midi port on the right side. that blank area was the target that worked for me. i tried with imposcar and no probs.

spectec; that project bones trick is awesome and would have saved me about an hour of time ;)

i dont know if i could insert everything though without choking the box :)

Gah! I was dragging them onto the bar above. Thanks!

BUT fls still won't save [generator -> fx <--> internal controller] chains :bang:

You forgot to mention that you can save an effect preset and drag it to an individual insert on any mixer channel (super convenient).

I was hoping there was a way to create a dragable reset for an individual mixers insert but nothin doing! I had to create one myself using my external app that resets the effect insert when the mouse is hovering over the said insert.. Works pretty good so far !!:D!

yes, yes. i've been using FL since day one. its an absolutely brilliant app. love the browser. also, can I just say that edison is the shit?! it just keeps getting better and better.

not to mention, the ability to load it as a vst is brilliant...i recently purchased renoise  the arranger in renoise can be a bit of a bitch sometimes so i just load up FL as an instrument in renoise, use renoise's 'render selection to sample' and load and arrange my tracks in FL. i love the open-ness of FL's playlist! so easy to experiment with different arrangements....renoise and FL make quite a team :D

now, if only renoise could export waves outside of the rar'd renoise song folder so i could easily access it in FL or any other sampler! :-o

This is strangely well-timed. Just last week, I went through and did this with all of my VST's. It's nice, because it gives you not only drag-and-dropability, but also lets you organize your plugins any way you want.
