by todays standards, a theory is only scientific if it is falsifiable. And in order to falsify it you first need to doubt it. No serious scientist should ever be annoyed if someone doubts his finding because doubting his findings and then not being able to falsify them is what makes his theory stronger - the more failed attempts of falsification the stronger the theory. Well, but of course there's also the possibilty that it indeed can be falisfied.

Good points jens ... so go ahead and let Robert Henke know your doubts. The problem with posting them here is:
1) Robert is less likely to read this
2) You thus perpetuate doubts for others without helping create positive solutions
3) Your doubts thus have no positive purpose or value, when they perhaps could have

It's good to contribute to the debate, for sure. But the purpose of posting this thread at all was to draw attention to the debate that is happening in a place where your/our contributions can make a difference, rather than to stir up a seperate (and basically pointless) debate here. Please take your points to Robert - it's clear from his responses to others in that (and other) threads that he is concerned to help make Live the best it can be (and why ever would he not take that view anyway?)

Hmmm.... having read all 19 pages of the Ableton forum's thread that started this one it seems to me the OP and some others miss Robert's viewpoint. The implication I came away from it that he was trying to properly (and at times improperly) address the usual competitor's fanboy that comes on the forum posting, "Live's audio quality sucks, I can hear the difference, trust me." While he alluded to changes in the upcoming version, it was not lauded as a feature. Rather it was implied to be 'tying up loose ends'. As usual when people play "telephone" and pass it along to KVR it gets somewhat distorted.

I think it's exactly because people have been having some version of this argument (on KVR and elsewhere) ad nauseum for ages now that Robert/Ableton felt the need to do this kind of testing. Hopefully it will stop or slow these threads eventually, though I became much less optimistic as the one on the Ableton board developed.

but somehow this reminds me of Robert Rosenthal's study concearning self-fullfilling prophecies of scientists - he found out that scientists have a strong tendency to find their theories confirmed, due to the (unconsciously) selective way in which they attempt to avoid finding material which might lead to falsification - the ony problem is that the result of Rosenthal's study might as well apply to itself...
