Kontakt problem- what the heck?

I'm a bit tired tonight, so maybe I'm missing something. I'm doing some mapping of samples, and have them split into several groups. They are drum samples. I want them to ring out even if a key is released.

Anyways, the first group, I go to the "Modulation" section below the effects section. It's the ADSR envelope pretty much. I set the release to longer. Ok, great.

But that envelope isn't available for ANY other groups. It just disappears. The little arrow is still lit like the section is there, but it's not.

I use Kontakt most of the time for loading and editing samples. And the things I've created haven't needed this before. So maybe I am missing something obvious? The manual says pretty much nothing about this section that would help me.

Please tell me that I'll kick myself in the rear when I find the answer. I know I'm missing something.

Each Kontakt Group contains a set of programming parameters, such as Envelopes, LFO's, Filters, etc.

Every sample in Kontakt (that is, a Zone in the Mapping Editor) has a Group (only one) assinged to it.

So it makes sense if one Group has a ADSR Envelope (probably set to modulate volume), and the others don't. Simply add an Envelope to the other Gruops - or, delete the existing one, then, makign sure EDIT ALL GROUPS is selected, do "add modulator" to AMP, and shoose ADHSR Envelope and route it to Volume.

That will add an Env->Volume for every group, and should solve your problem.

Hi Brent,

The envelope is a per-group setting so if it's missing for the other groups you can simply add it. Unless you already have a lot of custom settings that you want to keep the easiest way might be to remove the envelope from the one group that has it and then add it to all groups. Here's how to do that:

Activate the button Edit All Groups in the group editor (make sure it's red). Locate the Amplifier section and click the Modulation button there to expand the list of modulators. Select the group that has an envelope in the Group Editor and you should see an envelope (AHDSR) in the list. Select this envelope by clicking on it in the modulator list - this should give it a yellow border - and then press the Delete key on the keyboard to delete it. From the 'add modulator...' drop down menu select Envelopes/AHDSR. This envelope should now apply to all groups.

For some reason Kontakt 2 creates an envelope by default for the single group in a newly created instrument, but not for the groups you create yourself by clicking the 'Create New Group' button. The removal step above is necessary, because if you simply add an envelope to all groups the groups which already has one will get two of them. I hope this helps.

Excellent guys! Thanks so much. I wasn't aware that it was an assignable thing, since I hadn't added it myself. So I was not thinking that the modulation buttons elsewhere would be for that.

But problem solved! Thanks again, and back to work on this free drum kit.

Anyone care for a kit with 8 vel layers and 3 round robin samples per layer?
