Yeah, thanks Nick!! This is definately top notch for high gain!!

I also just discovered a great guitar use for Nick's TubeDriver, in front of Studio Devil BVC to reduce gain (turn TubeDrivers output volume down) and make it able to produce a fantastic rich clean tone, it really cleans up the midrange and adds sparkle! Then bypass for some of the best amp-sim crunch available straight out of SD BVC!

Now it is possible to go from rich "expensive" clean, to gutsy touch sensitive crunch, to über-gain all for free thanks to Nick Crow, Studio Devil BVC, Boogex, etc (BlockFish, CamelCrusher, Ariesverb, all the great cab IRs out there, ... ), not to mention all the movement on the commercial front. This is a great time to be a guitar player!!

God I hate my apartment. This is why I never record anything. Decide to try this thing out, fire it up and I have an instant -3dBu noise floor from the hum being distorted and amplified. Without the sim, -50dBu.

For those who have heard me bitch before, yes I have all the usual bases covered, so save yourselves the aggravation of making suggestions.

Not that I don't appreciate them, but I've had countless threads on the issue, and there's no resolution to be had. It's just my apartment.

It's not an impedance mismatch, I can't afford a Hum Debugger, and it wouldn't likely work anyhow. You don't understand. This place is hell for EMI/RFI (it litters everything, including our landline phone), and there's no true ground-- and no, I'm not able to install my own ground to a cold water pipe and all that... we've been over this.... <grumble>. Y'know, I wish some of you smartasses could sit in here for a day. You'd understand.

Some sort or isolator/filter, I guess I'm thinkin' of... maybe even a cheapie UPS.. don't those have them built-in?

This plug-in has such high-gain distortion that if you have any levels of hum, it is unusable.

I actually can relate, in the 90s I lived for 5 years in a hi-rise apartment building. I was on the top floor (11th) and on the roof were antennas for a paging company (remember in the 90s pagers were very popular). I used the search function on my police scanner to nail the frequency down, the noise was unbearable...I can't even discribe it, but if you've heard it you know what I mean. It was every few seconds, it would come threw my amp louder than the guitar and only one thing worked to fix it....moving.

That combo alone would eat about a third of my cpu (with Wagner Sharp in lowest quality mode) - thanks, but no thanks.

What, are you saving up for a rainy day?

With G-Tune, TubeDriver, Studio Devil BVC, BlockFish, CamelCrusher, 3D Motion DMP, SA Univibe, MDA Dub Delay, and Ariesverb running it's taking about 30% of my 5 year old Inspiron 8200's CPU - it's what my CPU is for AFAIK (I freeze/render).

EDIT: for this use (input gain reduction for SD BVC) I'm using Nick's TubeDriver, not the Wagner Sharp. They are both great, BTW - thanks again, Nick!

Also, jens originally came up with the idea of reducing the input gain to Studio Devil BVC to get a clean tone out of it (so thanks for that idea, jens), except by using G-Gain which does work great and uses less CPU, but sounds a little more "Brit" (like a clean VOX, a bit tubby in the mids) which is cool, but with TubeDriver I can get a more Fender type clean which is my favorite.
