[BK036] deftype - casualty
to be found at http://c67.org/binkcrsh/ or http://c67.org/binkcrsh/BK036_DEFTYPE_- ... bk036.html for free download
all tracks produced using energy XT 1.4 between 2005 and 2006. final polish of most of the tracks in 2007 after some talks with binkcrsh's rb.
only free synths and effects plus the eXT internals were used to create these tracks. all tracks written, produced and mixed by me or my alter ego respectively. great cover art by the guys at binkcrsh.
I hope you'll enjoy this new netlabel release! certainly some new tracks made with energy XT will follow; concerning me I'd cherish some more stuff made public

My first "submission" here. Made with XT 1.4. It's called PR23 as in "project 23" because I haven't found a name yet and PR23 sounds kind of cool anyway. Comments welcome (esp. on mixing/mastering)

My second post here. It's called "Containment" and is a downtempo track, with a hip-hop/ambient feel about it.
I'd be glad to hear your comments.

Hi all,
Remember my 'variation' on DJ Subject's XT2 only track? No? Thought so.
Anyway, I've added/expanded/sillied up Colada-dum-dum for your enjoyment/disgust/...
It now features a voice from a nice educational movie, and some more arp nonsense. I hope it warms your little hearts:

I'd love to hear comments too. Should I leave it at that? add stuff? remove stuff? Do something serious instead? Leave you guys alone?
By the way, if anyone's interested in messing it up some more, I can send the xt file.
Cheers

Some good stuff there. I particularly liked the drums programming. Did you use breaks, BFD (or similar), or did you program things single-hits? The grace snare type action with panning is nicely done.dacaumodo wrote:http://www.xt-user.com/node/116

In terms of mastering, you are at -15dbRMS according to Soundforge, so I would say you have room to push it a bit more, say another 2-3dB with a limiter. If you look at the wave form this means you would only be lobbing off some peaks. In terms of mixing, the levels are quite good. To my taste, I like a bit more compression perhaps to gel things together more, but that's subjective. Also, the electric piano sound was a bit bland - could use some more modulation on the sustain part after the attack; like a leslie, or simple amp modulation, or something (light ping pong delay?)
btw, are the vocals sample CD type, or did you record yourself? They sound good in the mix.
PS. I know we're not supposed to post here, but I think the current system doesn't work well for attracting comments, so I'm posting here anyway!

Thanks a lot Swivel.
Actually the drums are a chopped up breakbeat, rearranged using the sampler in eXT 1.4 so it sounds nothing like the original; I wanted to give it a "carnival" twist. Or perhaps it just happened by accident, I can't quite remember.
I'll try to boost it up a bit with a limiter, you're right, it might be a bit on the weak side.
I didn't add much compression on the whole mix, I wanted it to breathe, but I might experiment some more.
You're right about the sustained keyboard sounds, I'm not really satisfied either, it almost sounds like a music box (I think I used Mr Ray, which usually sounds better than this, but not so much in the higher range), which is not exactly the intended effect. I might try coupling a rhodes-like key with a slightly weird synth pad or something.
The vocals (the "toodoodoodoo" and the spoken word section) are my own voice recorded and run through Cyanide (if I remember well). Thanks for the compliment. I tend to use the 'telephone' FX a bit too often though...can't help it!
We're not supposed to post in the eXt tracks category? I have an impression posts in this sub-forum then to be overlooked as they don't really appear clearly when you log on to the forum...
