I've never used it, but will give it a go if I can figure it out. :help:
Freedownloadmanager (from freedownloadmanager.org) is a good alternative.

Got it all in a matter of 30 minutes or so, using Free Download Manager.
Seems as if you just need a download slot to get into.

Installing it now (or so).

Thanks for the heads up!

Worth the download. To install the library on a sample drive (if you have one) you should install it there in the first place. OR, you can later move the files and modify the settings.cfg file in application data (that's what I did).

I had a nasty crash as well, when switching between presets, after 5min of usage. That's 3 of us that posted here. Not a good looks. Hope it was just bad luck and it will behave better in the future...

I can confirm that in FL7 on an athlon 3400+, 1g memory, XP SP2, I experienced a fatal error terminating my host when I switched in the preset browser between the october 2 pad and another synthesizer setting (which I cannot recall as the error dialog box runtime 625? obscured the moise pointer)

the sound sare great though. I really loved the ability for such lifelike tambourine lines and all the unique percussions, thanks yellowtools :)

Now that I've messed around with it...not bad.

The acoustic bass is nice. The world percussion is also good. Look to the mappings page to see what notes generate patterns (usually C0-C1, no black keys). It looks like they are keymaps to individual MIDI files. I was not impressed with the synths. The electric guitars were ok, the acoustic guitar was better still. I did not mess with the drum kits other than to hit a few keys for to get a sense of their sound - again, pretty good.

Loading up effects took a moment to figure out, but once that was done, the ones I tried worked well and sounded good. The interface...well, that's a matter of taste. I admit I'm used to Kontakt workflow, so YMMV.

I can confirm that velocity really makes a difference with most of the instruments. I had my speakers way down while I got a feel for the sensitivity.

I had one crash in standalone mode and I'm not sure why it happened. It hasn't crashed since, though (in standalone).

All in all, it's a freebie and a teaser, and this poster won't argue with the price.

I'd try again, but I can't even get to the server: only the server error page.

Post

Yep the server is down...
After 3 days of people pummeling it for DL it finally fell over!!!

Post

what i don't get is how could they have underestimated the mass hysteria/interest over a 2 gig sample library with it's own player... Teaser library or not - 2 gigs is 2 gigs. You can do a lot of damage with that kind of memory and the right programming.

Post

It's very hard to predict that. If you've bought a dedicated server and a backup, you might think that it should last if it's your first time doing it. But every server is different, and you have to learn sometimes!

Maybe they just didn't expect the word to get out so fast?

My host is better than your host

yeah that's true... i think kvr is kind of like a particle accelerator - once you stick something in it... BAM! there it goes.

Post

I think KVR is kind of like the Digg of the audio production/music world. Or so it seems sometimes!

No need for a download manager here  - just downloaded it first time using IE.

Anyway, after more playing, the verdict. I think that given the size of the sample library it's probably one to question which bits you want/need and will use. For me, I think that the bass and guitar sounds (especially the Spanish Guitar) are great, and the bass in particular is better than my hardward workstation or other software. So that will now be my go-to bass. The E Piano is very ordinary though, so may be worth deleting. Also the drums - just not sure that I need those. I quite like the synths and the arps may be useful at some point, so worth keeping for now. Etc...

After toying around a bit, I think I would probably end up deleting everything but the ethnic & world percussion - most of that sounds very nice. Now, I'm not saying that there isn't some other nice stuff in there, but for most other things either I have something that sounds better or the quality is just "passable" instead of "very good".

I'm not complaining of course, since it's a freebie and not bad at that!
never stop loving music.
