Fractal Potato wrote:I've just sold mine for exactly the reason you are talking about. I expected the XY pad on the PK to be as sensitive as a laptop touchpad, but it definitely wasn't. You don't have to press hard exactly, but it does require some pressure. The knobs also skip values in twos and threes. The pads were nice though.
I wonder if we've got the same generation. The x/y on mine isn't quite as sensitive as a trackpad, but it's quite close. About the knobs... mine don't have that problem at all. They're smooth and accurate.

I'm not the biggest fan of the x/y, so I'm not sure what everyone's gushing over. It's nice, but the grid of 16 pads is the whole point for me.

hi fractal. i wont be using the knobs. i'll stick with the sl 61 for that. mainly the pads and the xy is my interest.

to give you an example the xy on the sl 61 requires such pressure that as you push it makes SOUND rubbing and you can feel little grid impress under your fingers. i'm sure the korg one has to be much less pressure required than that :)

seriously my fingers make noise tha'ts how hard i have to press on the sl 61 pad to make it work.

You don't have to use much pressure at all with the Padkontrol XY pad. It's true that the slightest touch won't trigger a response, but it takes very little pressure. No squeaky friction noises either, and the ridges on your fingertips survive just fine. :D

Well, I'm glad I never got a Novation Remote if the XY pad is that bad! I'm sure you'll be happy with the PK in comparison. As has been said, it does require pressure, but nothing like that much. :)

Anyone used a Kaoss Pad? Are they more sensitive than the PK's XY pad or about the same?

The original ReMotes werent anything like that. I have two, and both respond to light finger pressure. The '25 (which is about 18 months older) is a bit more sensitive than the '61.

My PadKontrol doesnt require much pressure either.

The KP3 seems slightly more sensitive; its a 'glass' surface rather than a touch membrane. Very light taps, or touches are enough. The Kaoss Mini is closer to the padKontrol, but again, I dont find much pressure is required.

None of them require 'squaky' levels of finger pressure.
An idiot on Set Theory:

I'm just too picky basically. :D

KP3 sounds good. Do you know if the KP2 has the same kind of surface?

I dont offhand, sorry.

No issue with sensitivity with mine.I was using it as a pitch bend as a soon as i touched it the pitch changed.Must be a different generation like the SLs.This is why i think it's a good idea to wait a while when a company releases a new product(automap anyone :hihi:)

@deastman,it's different.Cos it's designed for percussion it's easy to setup and you can have all sorts of configurations.I set it up with my emx t'other night so i have the drums on scene 1 and each synth part scenes 2-6.On the fascia it says midi studio controller and thats what it is,you can have scenes assigned to your drum vsts, scenes assigned to controlling your host and scenes assigned to controlling external gear or a combination per scene 8)

[edit]It was this one:

Not sure what else it does yet but so far i'm well impressed with it and cant see myself using anything else to play drums apart from a drum kit :hihi:

@rabbit; i may have a newer SL or something(?) but it does require significant amounts of force that is significantly audible when moving it around. i wish it wasn't the case. :(

i cant wait for my PK now :)

I went back to try and figure out how he was doing all that from the pk.The guy has hacked the pk and created software to do it

Nice 8)

You can email him to get more info.I don't know when available yet or how much it's gonna cost but i just emailed so i'll post it when i do :)

just writing to say i got my PK and love it. thank you very much for your help and guidance. it's definitely easy to use. now i just need to learn how to best map the pads.

what formats do you guys use? are there standards for 16 pads in a 4x4 configuration?

so far i've opted for:
row 4: low tom, mid tom, high tom, crash cymbal
row 3: clap, rimshot, cowbell, ride cymbal
row 2: closed hat, closed hat, pedal hat, open hat,
row 1: kick 1, kick 2, snare left, snare right

not sure if i like that yet though. i'm right handed if you have any advice on layouts.

thanks!

I guess your using battery from your sig.Have you checked the guys videos who made the tkp? There's one of him using it with battery.I don't have battery but i av been thinking how best to map drum kits that go beyond 16 pads(apart from changing scenes).

PadKontrol Users, a link to some Scene Sets and Scenes.
I got the pK to drum. Plus the x\y pad looked kinda trippy.

What I actually mostly use it for is the same pleasant surprise discovered by many pK users. Try some of the above linked to scales with a few of your fav synths. Bend them around a little with the x/y pad, experiment with flam and roll on some familiar presets.

Or try automating effect plugin parameters. Remember that the x\y position will snap to mid unless you "HOLD".

Yes, I still drum with the pK. Ten or so different hand drum sounds mapped low sounds to middle of grid, higher sounds to outer part of grid. Few of the sounds appear twice on the grid so I don't have to hit the same pad twice while in the middle of the grid and to give the outside of the grid more balance.
