i just want to say...(for anyone who was possibly considering buying a small keyboard/audio interface combo) that the audio interface on this thing (for the price) blew my mind. The headphone output by itself is phenomenal. I found myself listening to cds that i previously found uninteresting. The cross-talk seems to be nil and the stereo separation is amazing!! There was this degree of detectable placement for each instrument in the stereo field that was somewhat astounding. It also made subtle recording distortion extremely apparent - overcompression artifacts and other bad mixing choices were suprisingly detectable through the interface.

Needless to say, my first impression is to highly recommend this thing. Haven't really delved into the midi capabilities or the a/d conversion but it's a very solidly built controller interface. It's noise floor is dead quiet too.

i keep finding myself thinking it sounds just as good as my motu 2408mkII interface.

I've been thinking about getting a Photon since the price drop ...
thanks for the info :D

Brought one and sold it within a couple of weeks. Terrible product. All it did was crash my laptop. I went through the problems I had in detail with Alesis and they could'nt figure it out either.
Also, there is no latency buffer change. Drivers are awful. I dont think the built in soundcard is that great either, it just seems more like an 'add on' to the product.
Fair play if you guys got yours to work.

latency buffer change? You can usually switch the buffer within the host... I changed it in fl studio and it worked like a charm.

Drivers are bad as well? The thing was easier to setup than any interface i've owned. It doens't even need to restart the computer. I plugged the usb cord into my rig and there it was - audio and all.

But everyone has their own experience with it I suppose.

In Cubase, I was not able to change latency. It would'nt have any of it. As far as the drivers went, for me, they were terrible. Everytime I plugged in the photon x25 into my laptop, after a short period, it would litterly shutdown (laptop).
It was a nightmare :(

I'm not the only one by the way, you only have to look at some forums or people who brought the photon x25 to see they had the same problems as me. example...

ah, yes - i guess it does depend on your host for that sort of thing. I've never been fond of cubase for that reason.

The laptop thing would be problematic because the unit drains about 1000ma of current from the port. It's true that I wouldn't recommend for it mobile use unless you've got the dc adapter.

I'll test out the latency issue inside reaper and see what happens...

Cool! Im really glad it works for you ok! I got mine to get out of my studio, like use in front of the tv! But as much as I wanted it to work for me, it would'nt. I guess if it would of worked, I would'nt of sold mine.
