I want a very basic sensor to midi converter with great sensitivity, zero response time, and simplicity in its interface. I now have a Roland PM-6. I'm looking at Alesis Trigger I/O and Roland TMC6. What would be a nice upgrade, on a budget, say. Either of these? Any other nice options? Pls. advise.

I've never heard of a Roland PM-6 - what exactly is that? Anyway, the Alesis I/O has more inputs (10), but many people are of the opinion that it doesn't work well with Roland equipment - kits such as the TD-3 thru 20. You can get it for around $149.
The TMC-6 is what I use as an extension for my TD-6 kit. It has only 6 inputs and costs around $249, but works perfectly with my kit, and has given me no trouble.
It all depends on the pads/triggers you use - Hart, Yamaha, Alesis and Pintech should all work fine with the Alesis, but I have no personal experience. If you have Roland stuff, I'd definitely go with the TMC-6.

Really my bad. Roland PM-16. And hey, I'm just a DIYer. I made my own sensors out of piezos, which is pretty much the same as what Pintechs are, although the pintechs are better looking. I also have 6 pintechs. I also bought a bunch of nicer piezos that will look more like pintechs when I'm finished. Easy. But a midi brain that's easy, cheap, and good. That's where it's at. And the PM-16 is pretty nice. But I want better, stronger, faster. Smaller. Battery powered maybe.
And thanks much for the input!

Yeah, lots of DIYers seem to use the Alesis. Have you tried posting your question over at www.vdrums.com ? They have a DIY section in the forum, and there's plenty of info on TMIs there. If I were in your situation, I'd go with the Alesis for the price and extra inputs.
