this is the perfect kind of thing for p2p bittorrent networks.

As are most/all downloads. But will devs listen? will anyone listen? I've heard people complain about, or ask for donations to pay their bandwidth bills, rather than get smart. Crazy.

I think the point is that they would prefer people to register so that they can send them product info!

And if they torrented it they would have to set up their own private tracker...
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Why do you assume I don't? p2p over dialup is just as slow as a direct download, what you say makes no sense. I can't get into the yellow tools site presumably because it is overloaded with people trying to download independence free - but the bottleneck is at their end, which is exactly what p2p tries to alleviate.

p2p spreads the load over multiple computers, with every PC feeding the chunks it has already downloaded to other computers, thus lightening the load on the 'seed' server. It's much more efficient.

But it seems like they are also distributing DVD's. So just stick the dvd contents in a torrent...

I don't know how the registration goes (can't get into the site), but I don't see that it helps, just stick a link to their web page in the help file. I think the people who like independence free and want more sounds (and ability to import wavs into it) are surely capable of finding the yellow tools web site without getting spammed by email.

LOL. I still get the "Error because of misconfiguration" message, I can't even open the main Yellowtools website.

Unless you have permission from Yellow Tools, no. Get their consent and it's fine.

That's the point, beeing unexperienced to manage something like this, what would you, or anyone experienced, more precisly suggest as the good way to do?

Contact Yellow Tools and ask. If they don't reply, or if they say no, it's no. They have the right to say whether or not it's allowed to redistribute their software, free or not, and if so, how it may be redistributed. Just think what would happen if a version got passed around that someone had infected with malware.
