Building an Effects Processor

Hi guys, I was hoping to get some helpful advice. I want to build an effects processor for my guitar. It's really just something I want to do for fun. The majority of my knowledge is on the software side. Although I have some hardware experience (my degree was EE) I don't have much along the lines of audio. I know I need: ADC --> DSP --> DAC, what else goes in there? What manufacturers/parts do you recommend? I've been looking around on TI's website. They have some nice looking dev kits but they are way expensive. Any tutorials, useful tools, or knowledge is greatly appreciated! Thanks,
Barry

Wanna build something like http://www.jesusonic.com/ ??
You just need a PC motherboard and a low-latency audio card plus a guitar DI.

That's pretty cool! But you have to buy an Anal Devices kit.
Awesome! Thanks, there's a lot of good info there. And it looks a great place to post any other questions like this.
