I'm trying to get together some final pieces, and although I have many bass guitar sounds, I really don't have a really detailed bass guitar. Something with plenty of articulations.

Are the Scarbee ones very good? I'm especially looking at the Black Bass.

I'll be doing acoustic pop/rock Christian music. I don't really need any slapped samples(got it covered) so pretty much picked or fingered samples.

Any options for less than $100 to look at? I just haven't looked in a while, and don't even know what's out there now.

Thanks.

being a bass guitarist for one MILLION years ( :hihi: ) I'd say black bass is just the sickest most useful set EVER! Of course, you need kompakt 2 which I don't have.......

So I got a musicman instead!!!!!!

manytone has some cool bass samples, including a set of an ovation acoustic eletric.

In fact they have a number of bass sample sets: WusikSnd, Sound Font, and V Sampler.

Black Bass from Scarbee is excellent

for acoustic music the manytone acoustic is great and well affordable.

Have you guys played Black Bass? Will it work well for acoustic pop/rock music?

Are there string sounds integrated into the normal playing, or is there a way to put them in without having to program them? I didn't hear that in the demos, although the rest of the stuff was great.

Are you talking about their plugin? Or the upright bass? Ultimate Bass Kit?

For me, they didn't sound as detailed as some other options, and were much smaller. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything, of course.

The sounds are sampled without effects, so they're really pretty versatile even though they come from a single instrument. I use GearBox or Logic's guitar amp sim with it and I'm finding it useful in a lot of contexts.
The scripting is already done inside Kontact -- some special features are activated by playing technique, pedals, etc. So far I like it
a lot. It's really pretty "natural" feeling coming from a guy who occasionally plays a real bass.

no, I am talking about the manytone acoustic bass guitar sample set available for several formats (the vsampler set was done by myself):

http://www.manytone.com/ovation.html

it seems available at discount at the moment.

Any good demos you've done with it yet? I would love to hear any samples, as the ones on the site only seem to show a limited use, IMO.

I like how it's designed to PLAY, instead of program. So I guess the question is, is it really playable without a huge amount of editing? It sounds like it since you said it feels natural.

I don't have an expression pedal, but I do use sustain. Will I miss out on anything important that I can't program in without the expression pedal? I'm talking about getting it to sound natural, as I know I can always program in expression.

Sorry for the questions. I don't usually spend that much on a single instrument.

Also, have you compared Black Bass to the other Scarbee bass sets?

Wow, seems like a great deal. I'll have to consider that one. It doesn't cover the electric bass sound, but it does cover a sound I didn't even know I need!

So thanks for that. I don't remember seeing that one on the site. But I didn't look THAT closely.

I do not yet have the black bass, but be aware that both the black bass and slap'n fingered (which I have) are great sounding but are electric basses which might not fit very well to acoustic music. if you want to have an electric I would rather pick a fretless one. at www.wizoosounds.com you can get a very, very nice sounding pagelli fretless bass:

http://www.wizoosounds.com/cgi-bin/WebO ... 2.13.6.1.1

very nice and very affordable. as for the manytone acoustic: it is limited to the sound of an acoustic bass. do you have a sample of the bass sound you want to achieve?

9GB bass for $99? http://www.pettinhouse.com/html/directguitar.html

What could be better? It's very playable when you watch the videos.

I guess I use the word "acoustic" here in the wrong sense. I am really talking about "non-electronic" music. As in not dance music or four to the floor stuff. Sorry about that confusion.

That being said, I do think that the Manytone acoustic sounds great, and will probably find a way into my library.

And with the Pettinhouse bass thrown in, the options grow deeper. EEK!!!

I'll try to get a little demo together if I can find the time this weekend. The sustain pedal and wheels are the only controls I'm
using for expression (Axiom 49). I don't really find myself doing any editing, it's mostly just playing technique. I have the J slap set which is
good also, but it is purely samples, so there's a lot more effort to select the right expressions at the right time. WIth Black Bass, you
can just dig in an play. I wish Scarbee would do a fretless library with scripting like that :)

What kind of music are you doing?
