I've decided to get serious about making music now after playing around on my sequencer for two years. It's a very fun hobby, expensive, but fun. When you're on a roll, it's the greatest feeling ever, but when you have a bad day, it's really bad...but still fun.
What should I save up for?
1.Studio Monitors - Of course, this is the #1 priority right? This is what I'm most likely to buy. I'm actually producing on small mosquitoesque speakers that break down on me, and i have to fix them by slamming on them.
2.Sound Card - It's nice to have almost 0 latency, but it's something I don't really need unless I have a hardware synth right? I'm primarily VST based using V-Station and Z3ta+ and I'm fine with them. I'm not rushing to get any hardware soon. Sound cards will make my music's quality better right? I notice my synths aren't fat, but I know a part of this comes from inexperience and lack of studio monitors.
3.Virus TI - Hm, well this guy's phat. It's sexy. It's too sexy. How can you not love the sound that comes out of this thing?
edit:
4. Almost for got about this
Midi controller - it's very awkward to automate with a mouse, and I'd like to control my filters, decay, release, etc on a midi controller.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Need help on deciding what to get next...details inside

controller
m-audio keystation88
virus ti - for the price... i'd take a triton extreme plus tons of extra goodies...the whole supersaw just doesn't justify it for me
soundcard - something that houses the converters in a breakout box. if you don't, a noisy computer will ruin the noise floor
monitors - it's hard to go wrong buying a well known entry level brand like alesis m1's or m-audio dx series...

at first go with studio monitors. imho the most important thing in a studio. it will help you to improve your sound a lot if you really can hear what's going on.
and for soundcards. if you only stay digital (vst synths) and no hardware, the sound card won't make your sound different as it doesn't process the sound. the only thing that goes through the soundcard in this case is the output for monitoring.

Kids these days, tssk tssk...expensive, but fun
The monitors, soundcard and controller would ALL be nice to have, and you can buy them ALL for a fraction of what a second-hand used piano in good order costs.
Remember, only some decades ago you had to buy a piano if you wanted to play one regulary in your own house.
