Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. :)

I was really in two minds as to whether I should enter it; it was very much an experiment that I thought may have some appeal (some cool sounds imho) so dressed it up and let it go...

cheers,

Glad you entered it GaryG - now happily getting lots of short strange, inharmonic, Aphex type noises out of it alongside some cool tuned feedback to cut alongside guitars.

Any chance you can give more detail on your entry? As I've just discovered, by accident, that you could draw the waveforms with the mouse directly into the display you might want to put some more detail into the manual for idiots like myself :D The 'this machine kills speakers' also appears to load a dialogue - what does that do?

Post

yes, my favourite instrument so far. instantly getting heavy use :)

Thanks again, would love to hear anything created with bini.

spiggy: What manual? :) I played with the configuration of bini quite a bit during it's development, adding mod sources etc. but kept coming back to this simple configuration as I thought it offered a good sounds to simplicity ratio. Then I thought i'd omit a manual and let people explore it themselves, not too many knobs so would be 'fun'. A bit like picking up a strange guitar and figuring the knobs out.

However... Maybe some explanation would be good, I guess it's obvious if you don't tell people you can, for instance, draw in new LFO shapes then they won't try to. I'll knock up a quick guide, maybe included into a future version of bini.

As for the dialogue: ??? I'll have to check that later, what's it asking???

It opens a dialogue headed by 'Choose File'...?

Has anyone else googled "bini"?

Lucino Bini, the man who helped Cerletti develop the first shock machine, also invented something called "annihilation therapy." Cerletti reports that "Bini in 1942 suggested the repetition of ECT many times a day for certain patients, naming the method 'annihilation.' This results in severe amnesiac reactions that appear to have a good influence in obsessive states, psychogenic depressions and even in some paranoid cases .... The 'annihilation syndrome' has been compared by Cerquetelli and Caralono with psychopathology following prefrontal [lobotomy]

Answer the questions about Bini and see how many you can get right.

Could use Lucino Bini as inspiration for patching GaryG's Bini.

:-o

Lots of fun tweaking this instrument, btw. Thanks for the texture/layer utility, its a keeper for sure.

Love this thing.

I think it's capable of annihilating most thought processes if listened to loudly enough... :D

Great find, I'm tempted to try and make out that was my inspiration all along...

fuckbag? fair enough...

it's pretty boring where i got the name from actually... i was playing around and found this really harsh, delayed feedback sound that reminded me a bit of steve albinis guitar sound... probably get sued now... :)

glad you're finding bini useful, really cool to hear it's being appreciated out there.

I really like your synth but i do not understand some things...for example what a F... the (S) does..
I and i liked to be able to mix (T)+(N) and better filters (more).

Thanks

Sorry for my bad English

Post

Thanks.

F is filter, switch the filter in or out (on or off) with the F in/F out selector.

S would be the basic sounds waveshape; T is triangle, S is Square, N is noise.

Mixing the waveshapes is a good idea, I'll have a play and see if it's worthwhile.
