New entry level version of Ableton Live

I think ableton live LE is good for people who only want the audio portion of it. Remember that live didn't even have midi in its first implementations... This goes back to when live was made for working with audio loops to compose, rather than VSTs everywhere.
I think I might even get the LE version to go with whatever DAW I wind up using... I can see DJs and people who want something to record loops from thier grooveboxes and compose with them loving this program... Imagine if you had a machinedrum, a monomachine, a korg EMX-1, and a spectralis... This would give you everything you need to layer, sequence, and arrange loops from those boxes, plus record your guitar and voice over them... Perfect, no?

Not for you, but for the situation which I described...GHOST19 wrote:Mmmmm..MitchK1989 wrote:Perfect, no?
NO
It's like being able to buy a version of live if you don't want the midi stuff (because you already have it covered with another program, or because you work in the hardware realm for sequencing)
They should've dropped VST instrument support entirely, dropped midi, and gotten rid of the restriction on effect plugins. Then named it "Live Sound" and sold it for 120.

There's no MIDI output to hardware instruments and you have only 2 mono inputs, so only 1 instrument recorded at once, so it doesn't even make much sense in the situation you described.MitchK1989 wrote:Not for you, but for the situation which I described...GHOST19 wrote:Mmmmm..MitchK1989 wrote:Perfect, no?

This LE version doesn't allow to do much alone and if it was to be used with another sequencer, there should be rewire.

If they had kept/put Rewire support in it (host and slave) that would actually have been a brilliant deal for a lot of people.MitchK1989 wrote: They should've dropped VST instrument support entirely, dropped midi, and gotten rid of the restriction on effect plugins. Yes, but that's a very software centric POV. Rewire just lets you do with software what you can already do with hardware... Frig, Mac users don't even need rewire, they can just route the audio from one app to a virtual output and use a virtual input to go to another with core audio programs...headquest wrote:If they had kept/put Rewire support in it (host and slave) that would actually have been a brilliant deal for a lot of people.MitchK1989 wrote: They should've dropped VST instrument support entirely, dropped midi, and gotten rid of the restriction on effect plugins. And why would midi out matter if you were sequencing with grooveboxes? they have their own sequencers.GHOST19 wrote: There's no MIDI output to hardware instruments and you have only 2 mono inputs, so only 1 instrument recorded at once, so it doesn't even make much sense in the situation you described.

Also, the limited number of inputs might suck a little, but the idea is that you'd record all your loops off of the boxes and work with them from there.

Yeah, I'm hoping they steal my idea of a live that focuses entirely on Audio... With no midi or VSTis...
It would be nice if you already have either other software or (especially) hardware grooveboxes, and want the freedom of composition that live gives.

I seriously like your idea Mitch - and the point I made before about rewire is that I think there would be a big market for Live LE among people who basically prefer using other sequencers as their main DAW. So it takes pressure off Ableton to make Live the killer DAW package (although the full Live package could still develop into that of course
).
I can see a lot of people using PT, Logic, DP, Sonar, Cubase, Tracktion, etc wanting a Live LE that is the ultimate audio looping tool, without all the other stuff.

+1 for Live LE to be everything in Live except MIDI sequencing and VSTi support. It would essentially be Live v2 with updated technology. That would definitely have me interested at $200.

I tried to sell the full version (download) with Operator, Sampler and two MacProVideo Live 6 tutorials for $400, and couldn't. That's $100 less than Ableton sells the basic download for. I assume a lot of people will jump on the $200 LE. I was just shocked there was no interest whatsoever in my offer.

It is a busy time though in terms of software updates that people may already be investing in: Logic 8 of course, but also Sibelius 5, or saving for Sonar 5/Reason 4/Samplitude 10/Audition 3/etc. Did you try advertising on the Abes site as well as the market place here?

TBH, I never thought about advertising it at Ableton's site. I did list it here. Like you said, there are a lot of products coming out now, and just because $400 is a very good price, it doesn't mean a lot of people will have $400 to spend. Also, I didn't list it for very long. I decided to go ahead and keep it.headquest wrote:It is a busy time though in terms of software updates that people may already be investing in: Logic 8 of course, but also Sibelius 5, or saving for Sonar 5/Reason 4/Samplitude 10/Audition 3/etc. Did you try advertising on the Abes site as well as the market place here?

Probably not a bad idea to keep it anyway
I know there's a big trade goes on in the market place, but personally I wouldn't sell a piece of software unless I was desperate for cash or changing platform. Otherwise, you may regret it. Imagine if Live 7 turns out to be your dream DAW choice
That said, if you think of selling just the Sampler, I bet you could easily sell that on the Abes site (I might even buy it myself!). But I would be amazed if Sampler doesn't get a MAJOR update in Live 7 based on what Robert Henke already said, so again, worth keeping probably, for now at least

When I hurt my back a couple of years ago, I sold quite a bit of stuff, and I definitely regretted it. That was part of the reason I withdrew my offer. It wasn't a money issue at all.headquest wrote:Probably not a bad idea to keep it anyway
