Anyone know where I can find samples of this sort of singing? - it's beautifully haunting music and incredibly complex. I know Ligeti and Reich have both been influenced by it but I'm looking for samples (pref free).

As far as polyphonic or harmonic singing goes, I'm only a little familiar with the Tuvan's, but as you bring this to my attention - a short google search later, I've found that there are a number of different cultures that have been practicing throat singing. This stuff is amazing and yes- absolutely haunting. here is a link to a brief article that mentions the variety of different cultures as well as the Biaka. I know this ain't the Biaka singing you are requesting ya might get some more information about the whole harmonic singing deal from the Friends of Tuva site. I've linked to the "Genghis Blues" page because if you have not seen this film and you're the least bit interested in this type of music- it's well worth it to seek this out. It's available on amazon and netflix. good stuff.
...I'd love to hear Biakan singing just to hear how it may be different from the Tuvan. The few articles that I found only mention the similarities...and give no real clips/examples
aMUSEd- thanks for letting me know about this! One more rabbit hole in which I'll probably get lost

I know Tuvan singing and it's interesting but very different. Thanks I don't think they use throat or overtone singing much and it's more like vocal gamelan structurally - almost hypnotic.

I released a VSTi a while back in the instrument subforum which emulates exactly that.
It's based on throat singing samples I recorded, and then the harmonic pitch is emulated.

I found this site with more information but it doesn't link to actual samples of music:

Long ago I posted a link to a blog wherein a man traveled around to various places where Throat Singing could be heard and posted mp3s which he explicitly said couldn't be re-used without permission: Bulgarian, Tuvan, Ladahki, Sardinian, Inuit... I am too tired to hunt it down at the moment but I'm sure it's still there probably in Everything Else.

Crowfoot knows where you can get sound samples of throat singing from right around the world. Just go to khoomei.com and then go to the khoomei forum page and look around. There are many, many mp3s that can be had....

Throat singing is one of the revolutionary forces of our planet. Let us use it for good. I guess we go into ourselves and then go back out to the people with this throat singing way.
