Just for peoples information (and this might be a coincidence!) I asked a question at the Podium forum and also mentioned how nice it would be to have the scroll wheel option on the time bar - this was literaly a few days ago, lo and behold, today the option is available!

I really need another host(!?@#) ... but getting Podium may divert my attention from buying more synths!

Podium has a lot in common with XT as far as the way I work - and as XTV2 still seems a way off it might fill a gap for me.

As far as the Tracktion/Podium question goes, I am starting to think of hosts like having a selection of synths or FX (well the affordable sub £200 ones) - you invariably will have people say; they compliment each other - well the same can be said for hosts IMO.

There is stuff in Tacktion (like racks, quick and simple loading of synths/fx, fabulous visual feedback from the design/layout) that few other hosts can match, but then again I could mention stuff like highly usable piano-roll, configurable windows/layout, unique render options, solid multi-core engine (blah, blah) that Podium has - I have at least three hosts that I genuinely enjoy making music within - and I don't have a problem going from one to the other!

I agree flipper - I am still having a great time using Tracktion and Live, but Podium looks like it could add something *different* that could provide a refreshing change from time to time. I just got the CM edition, which will obviously keep me going for a while in terms of assessing the programme, but if I get into it as much as I suspect, I imagine I will be buying the full ongoing version before long for exactly rhe reasons you say

I just tried Podium 1.77 CM edition but it does'nt work

I set up a new project, midi & audio and when i add the vst folder it starts to scan the vst folder, and back to windows it goes

I agree with flipper. And sometimes it is nice for just a change of pace/scenery.

Actually I just spent an hour making some loops with Tunafish, and I'm having a ball. Does that mean I'm ditching Tracktion, Live, or no longer interested in Podium? Of course not... the change of pace/scenery and the variety of inspiring environments is just fantastic

Do you have any Image-Line plugins installed? Someone reported that FL Studio and other Image Line plugins would cause the Podium scanning to crash. This was due to multithreading issues. Podium 1.80 fixed this.

No Image line plugs here

I did some testing and discovered that it was a Synthedit plugin called Trancender 2 that crashed it so now i can start playing with Podium

The latest 1.82 release (demo available) addresses this exact problem. Podium will now log the currently scanned plugin, and if it crashes, the plugin will be added to a quarantine list the next time you start Podium.

Too bad, because I just have the version 1.76 which came free with the german Beat Magazine.
So with the versions pre 1.82 it is just not usable if it decides to crash on some VST?

No, it's still usable, but you will either have to move that plugin during scan, OR you can only import the other plugins, either individually or whole folders at a time. You don't have to scan your entire folder, but it will just be a bit of extra work.

But no, it's not unusable, just a bit of an annoyance.

I just did some email folder cleanup and I found some old emails from January 2004. I did just a little bit of beta testing of Podium before it was realeased and then I got too busy. I recall being quite impressed with it, even though I found some of its ways a little unintuitive; it was the kind of program where flexibility and power outweighed instant-gratification startup ease. At least, that's how it seemed to me. I may just have to download it again and see how it's developed over the years.

Man, time sure flies.

Oh, and I was also impressed with the developer. Cool guy. Didn't get all Gol-like when I was thick and stupid.

Please tell me, will it be Podium 2 soon or not? Im thinking about buying Podium,but maybe there is no reason to do that, if Podium 2 soon will be released.

Well, it's hard to say. There are still updates quite often, and some major changes are in the works.

But I'm pretty sure the upgrade to version 2 is included for free, so you may be better off buying now in case the price goes up(I have no clue if it will or not, but it surely won't go DOWN).

Ok.Thnx for mega fast answer.One question about automation.I have checked the demo and saw,that automation curves(lines)(im always draw the lines) can be created and edited only in the pop uping automation editor.It seems to me ,that i cant draw it exactly under the the track,i can only see,that automations lines appears here.Is it truth?thnx.

How many vst instruments per one project could be? And how many effects per track could be?
