bduffy wrote:Hey - nice summary, BERFAB! Special thanks for explaining the install process (not sure how they expected us to know that; the pdf's I found after installing and running the dll...)

I quite agree with you on all points; some great sounds here (I too was surprised to hear fret noise release layers!), great internal effects and some very complex routing. I find the mixer a little confusing, but obviously, like Kontakt et al., I'll have to sit down and get familiar with this; but this is an excellent[/i] general-purpose library, great for writing ideas, and I envision plenty of these sounds becoming permament favourites in my projects. This thing makes Sampletank Free look like a cassette tape.

I did find some of the patches loaded a little slugglishly, even freezing my computer once, but it must be said my old beast is really starting to act up. All in all, it's VERY good on CPU. A loading progress bar would be appreciated, however.

I might have to take the full-version leap some day; this would be a welcome addition to the collection. However, with Kontakt 3 out, it'll have to wait. :D

No sweat. 8)

I think you've been reading my mind on several points:

First, I actually had STFree in mind when I was checking this out, and your statement sums up the situation nicely. I think the boys at IKMM have their work cut out for them demo-wise when it eventually releases ST3.0. :hihi:

Second, although I have absolutely no use for another sampler (I have several of the top-tier beasts, and a host of freebies), and had no intention of actually buying the Yellow Tools product, I must say that this collection certainly has me thinking about it. However...

Third, I too am eagerly awaiting the K3 upgrade next month (which I'll get as part of the Komplete 5 upgrade). Weighing in at 30+ gigs of new samples, I'm excited to see what has been done with the advanced scripting options. The last free K2 update was a very nice one, and the excellent Kontakt Experience package really only begins to scratch the surface of what's possible. But I'll have to give K3 a little settling time before I start to get the itch to buy the full Independence package.

Finally, bduffy, please note that I had absolutely no problem loading any of the patches quickly. In fact, loading Cubase 4 projects that contained both Independence and Kontakt 2 instruments revealed slightly faster loading times than for some K2 instruments. CPU was, overall, fairly light considering. Since I now use the 'instrument' tracks in C4, I usually load new instances rather than multi out of one instance. A track I did last night had 3 instances of fairly dense MIDI information, with FX, before I started to notice a bit of strain. YMMV of course. :hihi:

sorry o bother you guys but some german guy posted the libray on some site can someone tell me how to grab it properly thanx alot

I tried the forum links and the DL site blocked me after 2 dls so I went to Yellow Tools. It took a while and I had to refresh at the error screen but I finally got the link.

I had flashget installed but it was very slow (6 hours) so I stopped it a 9%, installed Free Download manager and got it in about 3 hours. Thanks for the tip!

Nice! Thank you Yellow Tools very much for this great freebie but I have too many already to buy another. I will say that I found it excellent and inspirational despite a few bugs.

If I get inspired enough to do more than try a few presets, I figure it's a pretty good piece. Defiantly worth the dl hassle.

It's not what I did but click the link and register on the DL site... If you don't register they make you wait between dls.

There's no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. $7/month probably means your on a shared server. I'm sure the company your with has a hidden limit I've experienced stuff like that when I first started out making websites and started getting big.

Finally got it. Had to refresh the linked page (in the first post) about 10 times to get in though. And the registration page is partially in German, so I had to guess at what some of the stuff meant. Definitely a hassle to get it.

Hi, Drazen. I decided to try Independence Free. I filled in the form, but got this when I clicked the "Submit" button:
Error because of misconfiguration.

Please contact your server administrator or contact the support of

available via email at [support email address removed from my post].

yellow tools is switching to a new server. Please be patient. We'll be back soon!
One recommendation: On the registration page, if you click the link to read the terms and conditions of the license agreement, the agreement replaces the registration page. When you click the browser's "Back" button to return to the registration page, the form is empty and must be filled in again. It would be better if the terms and conditions would come up in a separate browser, leaving the filled-in form as it is.

Hope things are back up and running soon. Looks like a great give-away, for your company and for users.

[edit] Third time was the charm -- finally got to the download page.

The website seems awfully slow displaying pages, but the download is flying along at about 400 MB/sec. I guess the download is coming from a different (new) server? :-}

Haven't been able to download completely yet. I have a question for the lucky bastards who use Independance already :D :

Is the sample engine the same as the dongled version? Can you eg. import other sample formats, load third party sample libraries made for Independance, map .wav files into instruments or is it a closed system that only works with the samples provided?

Thanks,

Peter.

Just got through to the product page and it seems there's no import possible. So I'll just use it as a rompler then.

i just spent 3 days downloading it (2400baud modem flashback!), and in cubase sx2 i get the error: "Unknown error while initializing the editor controls." the gui loads about halfway, but i cannot select any sounds (the whole right half of the gui is blank grey)

same thing when i try the standalone. data files are in place correctly. also in the standalone it won't let me select my proper ASIO driver (never had a problem in any other program with this whatsoever)

in eXT, attempting to load the plugin just makes the whole program crash.

is my computer just too old (i.e. do i need a CPU with SSE support or something? i'm on a 1.3ghz athlon thunderbird)

Hi. Are there any suggestions for downloading the soundbank quicker? Are there any mirror sites?

Post

I found that a download manager helped this to go much smoother. When I tried simply "save target as" the download always cut off somewhere around 150-200 Mb. Instead when I used Down-them-all in Firefox it went very quickly and smoothly and was the only way I could successfully receive all of the file.
