I just think my clean sounds are a bit lacking if you know what I mean.. I've messed with the tone a lot and I just can't get the sounds I'm looking for.

so I just bought a cable to connect my guitar with my computer; since I don't have any high-end interfaces for doing so, I got a 1/4 in. to 3.55 mm (male to male) cable so I plug it directly into my microphone jack. My question is am I losing any serious amount of quality while doing this?

get a lexicon alpha and plug it into that.
the input on your built-in audio will provide terrible quality no matter if you connected it with kimber cable or 22 gauge radioshack pos.

or get one stomp with a line out(or any digital multi fx) I would suggest teh behringer sansamp clone, about 30-40 us$
