To add a bit to Greg's comments above..... Actually with the keyswitches in ManyBass at your fingertips it should actually prove quite useful in live playing. Although you cannot directly layer in ManyBass, you can still have 4 different soundsets loaded at one time. This means in a Live situation you could instantly play a muted bass, a deep bass, a slap bass and a tap bass, and instantly with the midi notes on your keyboard the left hand can flip through these soundsets. (Or you can assign the keyswitch to buttons on your controller too ... that helps some of you with smaller range keyboards)

Now what you may need specifically though...is to just remap some of the soundsets for your own taste, simply in ManyMapper.
Then you could easily do what you wanted here (layer say fret noises (triggered by low velocities) with notes)

I think though with keyswitches and a combination of soundsets mapped to your own taste, you are way ahead for live playing. I know I just love it here for Live situations!

ManyBass really is already set up for live playing with the keyswitches, but in DBrendon's case, he's using it for a left hand bass keyboardist situation, so keyswitches are more difficult to manage with one hand only.

Correct you are Greg, and I knew this. It was just the thread had implied a bit that ManyBass only loads 1 soundset, so I wanted to correct that for others reading this thread.

And as Greg mentioned, ManyBass is set up for Live playing, with a few tweaks on the soundsets in ManyMapper, DBrendon could have it exactly as he wants for his situation. (Layers in the soundsets, setup as he wants them, as opposed to how we have them setup now. In short ManyMapper lets you layer the velocities in the soundset as you want them. This would be the same effect as layering using the zones in ManyStation, but it is built into the soundset not the preset).

Mapping and remapping soundsets in ManyMapper is pretty fast to do. And for those that need help with ManyMapper, Greg and I will have videos on ManyBass.com soon showing ManyMapper and its usage.

I'm sorry if I implied ManyBass was not for live playing - that's not the case. I'm currently migrating all my patches over to ManyBass (from ManyStation)! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking some ManyBass functionality. As far as I can tell the only thing that can't be done (Paul correct me if I'm wrong) is true layering of say fret noise (at low velocities) overtop of the actual bass note. I don't think ManyMapper alows that kind of layering within a soundset. Now, having said all that, I still haven't got around to configuring that kind of functionality in ManyStation!

In terms of my live playing, so far, I've found the best results in mapping a few slides down to A0 and A#0. Throwing the occaisional slide in can really make it sound like a real bass player!

On a related topic, can you comment on the advantage (performance and/or loading speed), on sending program changes to load different presets as opposed to key-switching? Specifically if 90% of the time I use 4 different patches; is it better to load them into a single preset and use key-switching?

Thanks Greg and Paul for all your advice. I think I mentioned this before in private email to Paul, but I just want to repeat it here - my bandmates just love hearing your soundsets - it's really made a difference in our sound!

Regards,
- David

It'd be better to import all the soundsets as keyswitches rather than using different presets--that way, all the sample data gets loaded at once, providing for seamless keyswitching.

Hi Greg,

A while back you mentioned you were working on a new version of ManyMapper. I'm just about to tweak the ManyBass soundsets for my own preferences and was wondering if the new version was ready?

Thanks,
- David

Hi David,

It's not ready. Right now, the priority is getting ManyBass.com complete with a few tutorials to start it out.

But the mapper is fairly functional. You can create soundsets, compile them as WusikSND files, load and save soundset project files, etc. Of course, the essential next step is implementing soundset importing. Two modes here, one where you can extract the samples, and one where you can edit the WusikSND file directly.

But that said..... David should be able to do that....or what he needs in the existing version that is available now.
Or?

Oh, the existing version should work fine!
