The 6th string transmits on Midi channel 6, the 5th string on midi channel 5, etc.
Your hardware synths are set up apparently to receive only on midi channel 1(the ez-ag's 1st string). Either find an omni mode on your synth to receive all 6 midi channels, or something that can make all channels route down to one midi channel only.
Software-wise, you can use the ndcmidi plugs to do this. Google ndcmidi and it'll come right up. I don't know what's available hard-ware wise, but it's common to have hardware synths that can receive in various ways.

Hiya
You will probably be inundated with replies, so let me get in first - lol. Midi data can get sent on channels channel 1 to channel 16, from most midi guitars (at least the Casio DG20 and Yamaha EZ) each string sends its own channel (channels 1 to 6 natch!) Some midi modules will play anything on any channel received whereas some will only play a particular channel say channel 1 (although you can often overide this behaviour in the settings somewhere).
In practice this can be a GOOD THING, i.e. I could set my QY70 up so that say strings 6,5 and 4 played a bass part and strings 3 and 2 played a synth lead and the top E a lush pad sound. Usually though I just use the default which is to use the same sound for any channel data sent to the module from the guitar.
Hope this helps

The DG-20 however has a switch that merges the output to a single channel....I wish my EZ had that!
I don't know about the AN1X or CS2X but older Yammie synths
can be set to receive in OMNI and work GREAT with the EZ's.
I have a TG77, TG55, TG33, TX802 & TX81Z and they all work
very well with my EZ-EG.
Cheers.....CL
OK, so I'm a more MIDI ignorant than I thought I was. I'm trying to use my shiny new EZEG as a controller for my boards. I've played with it into both my AN1x and my CS2X. In both cases I get MIDI data sent only off the high E string. ??

Much appreciated! That all makes perfect sense.
I'll have to play around and see how to set the channels. At first glance, the Rx Ch option gives me only 1-16, no omni (this is on the ANiX). But there must be some other way. Will have to dig out the manual.
Nice thread you all have here. Anyone do anything wild with theirs? I'm thinking of a wild paintjob. Something to make it look just slightly less "toy"ish on stage.

Okay, so where did any of you buy the ez-eg? I was forced to buy the ez-ag due to the other model being discontinued!!! I could not find a new one anywhere.
The AG is very cool, however. But, I would have rather had the EG after reading a comparison between the two.

I'm building a plugin in Synthedit to use with the EZ-AG.
So far I've got it all routed onto channel 1, and midi note on under velocity of 20 doesn't come through.
But the notes stay on forever, so you have to constantly mute... it's just fun to try to make.

Hi!
Excuse first at all my bad english
I'm in the quest to lefty-ize the ez ag. With the help of the pictures by mbncp, i decided to open the "thing". Well i found the strings are named S1, S2, S3... and so on. From each string there are two cables, red + and black - . These cables go to two boards attached over the speaker. S1 S3 and S5 to one board and S2 S4 and S6 to the other. The wires from S2 S4 and S6 board are connected to the S1 S3 S5 board and then to the main CPU board with a multiwire cable. This cable is formed with 9 wires. Two are for the speaker, one is the common (all blacks - are the same) and the other six are S1 S2...
So i unplug the connector and with a little pin i have lifted the S1 S2... and then reversed them. I was thinking that this will be enough to make the guitar lefty so i just closed everything!
OK so i plugged the AC adaptor and i have switched on the guitar. Then i plucked open high E. Yeah! it matches! And of course all the open strings too!
A great smile in my face but... then i pressed 1st fret on high E. Damn it sounds the same!! Second fret too! All the same! Then i pressed 1st fret on the low E and plucked high E string! Lol, this sounds as has to be. So now i have a very weird guitar. The fretboard must be reversed too! I have had not much time but the fretboard seems arranged in a matrix way. On the end of this fretboard, neard the display there are two ICs with 18 pins each. Reading the datasheet i found that are drivers. 8 drivers each IC, Vcc and GND. 6 of the drivers are "occupied". They seem these are the "columns" of the matrix. I have no time at the moment, but... i will modify these traces, cutting and reversing them... maybe this will be the solution, maybe i'll toast the guitar... i will post the results!!!
Thanks to all for reading and best regards!

Hm, my out-of-warranty ez-eg has been innermittingly outputting midi data, not reliably.
Opened it, sure enough, the midi out jack's solder terminals are totally loose. It works now, now to test the long-term reliability.
But man do I baby this thing. They really cheaped out the solder, I applied some more. But do plug in/out of these things several times a day. I really love them, and gigging with a ztar, well, on my income it would suck to get it stolen.
Edit: I just unplugged the midi plug, now I understand. The whole freakin' piece kinda comes with it, it needs metal bars to hold the piece down, not just soldered metal tabs. So either have permanent midi cables hanging out of your guitar, or stock up on solder.

Mods and Modding the EZ-AG
-------------------------------
Like others here I'm quite interested in modding my EZ-AG, I've seen mention of Data Spec sheet, or wiring diagram. Does anyone know where the pdf is?

I thought I had an AG sheet. What I have is an EG service manual.Batninja wrote:Mods and Modding the EZ-AG

I know...that's a constant worry for me too. They way theyRunBeerRun wrote:Hm, my out-of-warranty ez-eg has been innermittingly outputting midi data, not reliably.

chinzed out there just blows my mind. Mine was kind of loose
and wobbly from the get go. I've been lucky so far but I know
its just a matter of time. I've been thinking about installing
a stouter body mounted midi out jack when it finally goes. A
1/4" jack for the onboard sounds might be nice too.
