Hi,

has anybody tried the WaveTracer?

Kx-Modulad > select the Kx-WaveTracer panel.

full band 32 bit waveforms : 13.75 hz to 14080 hz (pitch avaliable).
up and more than 23200 hz (harmonics).
Up to 1687 harmonics for the low notes (13.75hz).
Same quality for all clock frequencies: 44.1 to 192khz (Kx-oscillators).
Level and phase parameters for the harmonics.
2 gibbs modes available (smooth waveforms).
easy to use (repeat mode).
With the Hi mode, the wavetracer calculates a lookuptable for each note!
no aliasing.

I didn't receive any returns about this feature. I believe the Dc users don't understand the additive synthesis !!???

I tried changing all the knobs, putting 9.000 in place of some of the 1.000 boxes everywhere, it didn't sound any different.

Hi,

Have you read the help file ?

Kx-Modulad-Help.htm

How can I create a saw waveform ?

This plugin is provided with waveform presets : 100 to 128

I haven't read the manual or tried many of its features yet. I'm slowly poking thru it as I get time though.

Yes, I understood that isn't alway easy to get time for testing this kind of features...

but when you will understand...

These additive features are THE good way to produce great high quality waveforms with no aliasing!

Had time to play with the WaveTracer today (after re-reading the help file a few times). The folder structure of this plugin now makes much more sense to me. Hope to fill up a few of those KXDATAS\Kx-Modulad-Datas\lfo and osc folders with more and more waveforms.

Funny, at first I thought the sound would change immediately after displaying the newly designed and rendered waveform. Once I realized that I of course need to select said waveform back on the main page I was all set to go.
To listen the waveform, you must select the waveform with an oscillator of the modular panel and play a note...
:dog:

A quick look into KXDATAS\Kx-Modulad-Datas helped set me straight with the naming convention and little experimenting helped clear up the questions I had left after re-re-reading the slightly cryptic help.

Thanks for the Kx-Modulad-Help.htm btw. I know it is not easy to write that type of document in a second language.

Is Kx-Modulad the only synth of this type to have included the wave tracer utility within the plugin? Other synths I have require me to open an entirely separate application.

been reading the help and still can't display a wave.
i change numbers open .kxw's ,save, render, display. 'no file'

Hi,

Have you modified the kxwavetracer path ?

Is your KXDATAS folder on the root of your disk ?

In this actual version, the modular works with a KXDATAS folder placed where you want but the kxwavetracer may not work if the KXDATAS folder is not on the root of your disk with win98... But it works fine with XP (that's why this path option is not in my setup, anyway you must change the path manually)

I will verify again on my win98 computer.

Can you verify the paths written in the KxWaveTracer.ini file ?

Is the kxwavetracer.exe running when you push on the RENDER button ?

Post

the ini says;
C:\KXDATAS\Kx-Modulad-Datas\osc-med\osc-free-0.kxw
C:\KXDATAS\Kx-Modulad-Datas\osc-med\osc-f/osc-low/osc-free-1.kxw
the first is correct,2nd isn't there.
what have i done?

ok,
changed paths to;
C:\KXDATAS\Kx-Modulad-Datas
C:\KXDATAS
which should be right?
still no render,display action.

tried again and got 'datas repertory error' in the box.

(also i tried pressing the KxWaveTracer.exe but it crashed.maybe you're not supposed to.)

Post

C:\KXDATAS\Kx-Modulad-Datas\data.kxw

C:\KXDATAS\KxWaveTracer.exe

Once these two paths are set -

Save the waveform parameters into the " Data.kxw " file
> push on the "Save Datas" button

Render the waveform
> push on the "Render" button

Display the waveform
> push on the "Display" button

You should see this.

Remember, "THE NUMBER 0 TO 9 ARE PROTECTED FOR THE PRESETS"!

I'm working backwards with my numbering, example OSC MED FREE 255, 254, 253, etc. Just because. So dial in a name for what you're about to create.

In the section "Level Group1" go ahead and set harmonics to your preferences.
Image
Get a visual preview of your settings by using "Save Datas" then "Render" then "Display". If you like what you see or just wanna hear what it sounds like, you must return to the modular page and select this named and created OSC waveform in the VCO1-2 section (if OSC waveform is what you created).

Anything yet?

Hi Xavier,

A forward slash "/" in your paths explains why some things aren't working on older Windows. You will need backslashes "\" on all paths for Windows prior to 2000/XP (and it's still good practice on XP).

Enjoying KX-Modulad! I would love to hear what some other sound designers could do with this thing. Do you know of any more patch banks being made? Are you creating any new patch banks. The default bank is excellent, but I'd love to hear more.
TIME IS WHAT KEEPS EVERYTHING FROM HAPPENING ALL AT ONCE.

thanks bobsled!
that did it...but i can't listen to it cos there's so many controls i don't know where it is.

hi,

thanks Bobsled and Paulmerchant

I tested the kxwavetracer.exe on win98, it works fine if you place the KXDATAS folder on the root disk.
The "/" of the ini file is write by my SE Gui module.
The user don't use it!
It is used only by the kxwavetracer.exe!
I use the same path for my oscillators and they work on win98!
When you push on the "Save Datas" button, the kxwavetracer.ini file is erased and replaced by a new file.

But you must have the data.kxw file into the "Kx-Modulad-Datas" folder!
If you havn't it, create a empty "*.txt" and rename it "data.kxw"

The problem is the bad Kxwavetracer path or your kxdatas folder with bad folder!

Please verify your KXDATAS folder!

Kx-wavetracer panel of the plugin > Test with these paths:

C:\KXDATAS\Kx-Modulad-Datas\data.kxw
C:\KXDATAS\KxWaveTracer.exe

thanks

spacedad, this pic represents the middle of the Modular GUI.

See at the top of the pic where the read-out is TRI 0 for 1-SUB and TRI 0 for 2-SUB? That is part of VCO1-2, OSC waveform selections are made there.
