Has anyone seen a VST plug-in that is geared towards patch changes initiated by a footpedal (or better yet, the lowest 5 or so keys on the keyboard)?
I've read that VST 2.0 can send and recieve midi commands. Can it "read" say the lower 5 notes on a keyboard, make it so the sound associated with the key depress does not reach the speakers (or host sequenecer), and instead the key depress = send midi patch change XX. What's the limitation (I've heard that VST is pretty limited)? Could a key depress initiate a drum loop owned by the host?
Looking for VST geared towards patch changes on the fly

What you want can be done with e.g. MidiOx: change an incoming note on into Program Change command.
If you put a sampler onto a track it can play a loop upon a key press.
These questions aren't theoretical. Maybe you should have posted in the Getting Started forum.
Or continue that game of poker
