tbh I think BVC can get quite bity (but without sounding harsh, so that's probably what you mean) :-)
Oh yeah..I actually really like the tone of Studio Devil BVC as is (it's my favorite crunch tone sim already)- and it is also great with G-Gain, but the mids make it sound more Vox-like clean which is another great tone but when I think clean tube amp tone I think BF Fender and TubeDriver in front of BVC takes it that direction. The mids are probably coming from the IR used for the speaker sim (I'm guessing Celestion of some kind)...I think I read the full Studio Devil release is now going to have user selectable cab IRs for the speaker emulation so that'll be great! It's target price is supposed to be under $100 so I'm really looking forward to checking it out.

Between Nicks stuff here (with cab IRs), ReValver MK II, and Studio Devil VA I think I'll be more than set for truly dynamic amp tones...I'm pretty happy about how amp sims have come along these last couple of years!! :)

Hey, guitarzan, aren't you using Reaper now as well?

If so then you really need to check out the included Jesusonic amp-sim ('JS Guitar/amp model') it comes with 12 IRs featuring different combinations of classis amps/cabinets and is very low on the cpu (it only uses about a forth as many cycles as Studio Devil) and I find it to be quite good, especially for clean guitar (it doesn't offer any distortion on its own) :-D

Post

Yep, I have tried those JS guitar plugs and they are great for clean tones....although I think I added the Jesusonic distortion thing but set to a very clean setting. Seems like even "clean" needs a little hair on it even if it is at an almost subconscious level. Could be just me though...

Post

hehe - I know what you mean - but personally I often quite like those über-clean sounds - I'm a really sissy...

Post

Reaper is working out very well for me! Just about any two of the dozens of included plugins would be worth the price of the whole works - includes a free DAW!!

Love it! and FREE, thanks!

Ok, I didn't like the WagnerSharp at first, but after experimenting.. I Love it. I have a couple questions tho:

I have the GuitarHack set of Mesa Cab impuluses. But I'd like to get my hands on a decent set of Marshall 4x12 impulses. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Also, does anyone else notice that it's hard to control the volume after the CabSim? I have to attenuate it like crazy to get a workable level.
Anyone?

Nick...the developer of ReValver MK II actually noticed this first:

It's a great plugin you've got there and everybody appreciates it, but it looks like the background of your GUI is lifted right from the RVMKII Bassguy model! They are dead on, in fact (moreso than the pic shows actually)!! I think you should probably put together your own new GUI - ASAP!

Checks the small details, Guitarzan - it could be a replication, but there's no way that this is a copy and paste job - I think people have become a bit too sensitive these days...

edit: looking at it again, and even closer this time, I have to say I think it's obvious that I was wrong - but it looks like Nick Crow has put a lot of work into masking it - so what's the point then anyway? - I mean: it's nothing special to begin with. :?

The point is it is copyrighted material and the copyright holder is pissed!

It also throws up a cloud of suspicion about the coding to be frank.

you misunderstood my question - I meant: what's the point in putting so much work into ripping such a generic background instead of creating your own one instead.

Post

Oh, yeah...I don't know....kind of odd really

Doesn't look like a rip-off to me? Looks like a standard amp design. The colours are totally different for a start, even the dimensions of the sides are different.

Clearly is not a copy and paste job.
